Mongoose Motomag resto/build
« on: January 26, 2006, 09:33 PM »
My Motomag bits finally arrived today.

I'm quite pleased with the frame on the whole. There are a few marks on the rear dropouts, and a pin dent in one of the gussets, but I guess it's to be expected. I have removed the decals, as they were mullered, and had a quick blast with the Autosol, and it's coming up quite well. I've ordered a new decal set from VBMX.

The forks are wrong, but I knew that anyway.

Wheels look in fairly good shape, and the front one spins well. Rear is not so good, needs a re-build, and they could both benefit from a good clean.

Original cranks are fine, just need a clean. I got some pedals with it, but not sure if they are original or not (there was a pair of NOS, in the box, Suntour XCII's in the box with all the stuff too, dunno where they came from  :-\)

So I need a few parts still, seat, post & clamp, bars, stem, grips, tyres, but that's the fun part, hunting down all the pieces. If anyone's got any bits I could use on the old girl, please let me know  :)

Here's the serial number, just incase anyone here can decipher it for me, and give me an approximate build year. I'm guessing very early 80's ?

Cheers

Guy  :)

Yeah, I know it looks like I'm Mr Greedy, but when I see something nice, I can't help myself. I'm gonna have to stop soon though, cos I'm running out of money  ;D

Still got a few frames to be built up though  ;)

Cheers
