Harrow Skatepark
« on: September 05, 2008, 12:52 AM »
I've been trying to follow things as close as I can from this side of the world, but does anyone know if the council actually plowed Harrow Skatepark on Sept 1st like they said they were going to to make way for a new housing estate? Can someone give me an update, pics, video etc?  :'(

Is that the little park with the concrete half kind of like Rom but smaller?

Hey Greg, hope life is good.
Yep, Harrow has the same kind of capsule halfpipe like Rom. Some of the other stuff there are 4 moguls that are better than Rom, an awesome snake run, a peanut bowl, a horribly built pool, a freestryle area with big wedge & the infamous "Bollox" (not to be confused with those things in your trousers).....One of the last great 70's historic parks & losing it is going to be a crime. :-[

The word is that it will definately go, probably sooner rather than later. It will be replaced with another concrete effort, albeit in a different spot.  My understanding is that James and others are working hard to keep control of the whole thing so at least the new park won't be a pile of crap. Hopefully....

Hey John! I was going to make a trip over there today but the weather at the moment isn't exactly favourable. If it dries up over the weekend I'll have a look and let you know.

the main councillors behind this were absolutley set on it happening, i'm sure they will try anything to get it through.

When I used to ride there half the bowls were filled in.
Too bad if they're going to demolish it, I'll never get to ride the full park.
Del Mar was destroyed 3 weeks before I moved to San Diego!

Whad up Lee, good to see you on here.
Pipeline got demolished 3 months after I moved to the States, I didn't get to see it or ride there unfortunately (for whatever reason), but I definitely regret that & bums me out to this day. Harrow was the cement park I rode most, I wouldn't say I was local coz it was a bit of a treck to get there, but I definitely had some of the best times ever riding there after I was 16 & would be super bummed if it had to go away, just for memories sake....In the summer I would ride there from the early morning till the sun went down, my hands would be cramped in the shape of my grips by the end of the day coz I rode that much....It was nuts. Harrow was my "spot" from about 80/81 (maybe even once in late 79) till about 89 on & off , the best times ever! parks like that can never be duplicated, there's just an air & feel to old cement that can't be duplicated. a lot of parks today are just cookie-cut BS with no charactor. Keep the oldies alive, there's only a few left.......... Rode with Blyther today though at a mansion in Beverly Hills, can't beat that. & it was good remeniscing & realizing why cement is much more asthetically pleasing to photograph and watch dudes ride on. RIDE ON !
