only mid most of my riding during the 90s was infact a gt world tour
with top end 90s parts till it cracked at the head tube.i always wanted this
and that but never rearly got what i wanted.for my workshop im putting in it
the rides that where more sought after than the rest.

Mid S&M has got to me a Dirtbike or Holmes. 1" Im guessing, so pitch forks and redneck, slam bars. Oh, Im loving it already! ha ha.

I have been thinking about that platformed dirtbike quite a bit. does it count as a model in its own right, and if so, have I got to try and find one? ha ha.

It was OK, I guess, if you wanted a platform. Seems strange now to use a dirt, ramp or street frame for flatland cos flatland bikes have gone their own way now. And you dont really see platforms anywhere else now.

Anyway, it was a great frame cos it lead to a Perry Mervar section on an S&M video. How strange/funny was that?

I always thought it was geared more towards mini, but it was rare even back then! I wonder how many were made? It's a bit of an S&M holy grail i think!

It was just like the Homeless Soul Bro so i suppose it was more of a flat bike, did they shorten the front end?

Yea, I think your right. Mini did have loads frame standing stuff in it. I think the frame size and angles were the same as a dirtbike, as was the HAF, although the dirtbike kinda streched over the years.

I think the first Homeless frames were S&M frames cos they were made at the same place. It was right at the Homeless time that the dirtbikes came out with the platform. Maybe the weld shop got the orderes mixed up! I could tell you how many were made, not many Id say.

Do you remember the Homeless/S&M/everyone "Jimmy Levan" adds that ran in US ride? Ive got one scanned in, it would be great to see the whole run, back to back.

Yes it did, but that was a later on, when they were a little bit diferent from S&Ms. I think Chris Job knows more about that than me.

I went to the house where i used to live today and got a bunch of mags from the loft, I found loads of 80's mags and loads of 90's mags all of the early US Rides, Digs, Freedom, GO!, Plus! etc. even all 6 issues of the ill-fated Tread mag by Chris Hallman (anyone remember?) i'll go through them but unfortunately i don't have a scanner.

Thats the one, Chris knows more than most about the early years of Standard, and 90s BMX generaly. A wealth of knowlage for sure.

i think the dirtbike platforms came out a little bit after the soulbros, and the dimensions were way different, soulbros were tiny and chopper headangles.. i hated mine so much after a bit (well my knees did on the bars) that i went and bought a GT s-bend. gadzooks, chris hardy wasn't happy about that!!
and yes, standards rule! i know what alex means about the early ones looking funny with the height of the bb compared to the dropouts, but they rode so good!

Ah, Chris, there you are. At last, some facts injected into our ramblings. One fact I can tell you about the Platformed Dirtbike: In the S&M add at the time had something about getting what you want. 990s if you want them (optional extra). It said that "when Ruben wanted a platform on a dirtbike, he got one". The Ruben in that add was just a kid who asked S&M to put a platform on a dirtbike. It wasnt Ruben Castillo, the part owner of Homeless.

"Number 1"? If that is what I think it is ... I was only talking to someone about it at the weekend...

motomagII, your yellow sta looks much nicer, with the chainstay inline with the dropout slot (sorry Dan). I think I would have cut off everything below and behind the peg, but at least you can on that one.
