What is the "correct" stem (if any) for a 1983 GT Pro race bike?
Cheers, Ad

The Suntour stem is era correct but if you want it as it came out of the factory then in 1983 the stock GT bikes such as the Team Pro 1 came with SR components, so you want an SR stem

Everything on a standard Nora Pro purchased as a full bike had SR components, my bike in the picture was purchased like that, I have replaced the tyres, inner brake cable, chain and the pedals (the correct pedals are SR P.468's) I have the original ones but they are scuffed.

Please prove me wrong, any frame only purchases could have had any spec.

If I am not mistaken that pic is from BMX Bi Weekly 1983 Vol 3 No 11 so that is not an original GT spec sheet. The test was just the frame and forks (Pro Kit) fitted with various top end parts such as the flight cranks etc.

If you go back to my original post you will read that I said that the Suntour stem was era correct but if you wanted it like it came out of the factory as a full bike then they were all fitted with SR stems

Simple really ;)
