What is the definition of a 'show' bike?

Having seen the "whats the definition of a survivor bike" thread, it got me thinking...

What do people class as a "show bike" ??

At first thought to me it would simply be... any bike that somebody is Not prepered to ride 

What say you ??

Good question and yes and no. If you've hunted for super mint rare parts that hardly ever come up for sale do you want to risk damaging them ? So yes to that.

On the other hand, I have a motorbike that's both rarer and more valuable than any BMX and do  I ride it ? On parade laps yes because it was built to be ridden.

There is no definitive answer to your question Flo. What is value? Monetary, sentimental...

I have possessions that are priceless yet have virtually zero value

what MS /NS is for then i guess   ....... .......or just get some drop savers, seems too silly to me to not ride an os bike at all, i mean like griff said "built their bikes to be ridden" and ridden hard if it's a good bike anyway ... then send it to Animal or sawzall 

Chris, just out of curiosity: do you have one bike that you wouldn't ride at all for such reasons?

To me.. a show bike is one that you have a passion for that leads you to send time and money getting the right parts to build in a way that makes you think 'yep ... I'd enter that in a show & shine and let other people see what my take on this BMX thing is'

Interesting question! I guess another consideration is the class of bike, by which I mean show class, particularly if you have classes other than era, such as survivor and custom classes. For me, when I think of "show bike" a bike with polished parts that is rarely ridden springs to mind, though I can still appreciate the time and effort, not to mention money that's gone into it. The same applies to cars and motorbikes, a case in point being a recent visit to a classic VW meet here in Japan. Of the shed-loads of cool Beetles and camper vans there, I spent more time looking at the less-blinged-out ones. It's all good though - horses for courses, and all that!

positively, and some bike to have as a rider (just had another look ) ......makes me want to put my Scrambler back on wheels ........would look awkward with savers on that rat, though ...
