'Chrome' dia compe tech levers
« on: January 10, 2013, 08:54 PM »
Just been sorting through my tech 3 levers. I have a few in silver anno, but have another that has a much deeper shine and appears to be chromed. It has a little rash (like most survivors do) by the cable attachment hole by the dia compe stamp. Does anyone know if tech 3 levers were chromed or just polished. If i wanted to get this lever back up to show standard, would i need to get the chrome stripped (as i would with a frame/forks), or is it just a light covering that could be stripped using oven pride (like i would do when stripping regular anno'd levers)?. Thanks for your help. Andy.

Yes they did make DC Tech 3 Levers in Chrome & Silver.

Sometimes hard to tell apart when been polished.

This looks like a genuine survivor, so i think it's chrome... Anyone know how i would strip it? Does it need to be done in the same way as for a frame/forks?

chrome one's have a darker alloy under it if scratched - silver ones show more of a light colour if scratched

chrome is harder to take off - silver one's can be polished easy by hand or mop grinder

I have both, but not tried to take off the chrome with a mop yet  :(

If it's chrome Andy you will struggle to get the chrome off  , you will need to get it stripped by a platers . Leigh metal finishers will do it and it should only cost a few quid . You can then polish it  ;)  Oven pride or caustic won't touch chrome plate , ie pissing in the wind  :D
