Finished my First Restoration - 90's Ammaco Freestyler

Finally I finished my first ever restoration. It wes a bit of shed but it was cheap from ebay. It is an early 90s Ammaco Freestyler.

Started off as this:








And after a bit of work I have ended up with this. I haven't gone mad on expensive parts as it has been a learning exercise on how to do things correctly and more importantly enjoy the process of which I have. I was going to sell it but I think I will have problems parting with my first born :lol: .

I think it turned out nice. Got two other frames to build up now so the process will soon start again for me.

What do you guys think. All opinions taken on board .

Did you only keep the frame and forks though
and replace everything else for new, rather  than restore ?

Don't get me wrong it's improved it , not spoilt it

Tidy looking bike that, and really, it's about the pleasure you get from it, not how much it costs.

F&F and seatpost are the only original items. The brakes were shot and i didn't like the bars and i wanted to put skyways on.  The pedals were missing bearings when I stripped them so binned them and the crank will be used on another bike at some point.

I wanted something that looked similar to what I had back in the eighties and more importantly I had a very clear idea of what i wanted it to look like from the outset.

Glad you guys like it, really pleased with it, I think I will be stripping the original wire wheels and getting them finished in black with silver alloy nipples and black spokes/hubs for the next bike.

I was going to try and clean it up but I though the chrome was too far gone so I took it to a chromers who said it could be revived to a point but in all truth was too manky so it was dipped and then a zinc coating or something like that anyway bunged on it to stop it rusting. Then it was taken for blasting and powder somewhere else. The only thing that was a shame whas that the dipping process destroyed the brake cable guide on the top tube so I had to cut it off and grind it back smooth prior to powder.

I really like the Ammaco Pro stickers but clearly it isn't one of those but I think just the "Ammaco" part of that sticker would look nice as it is black so carries the theme, will have a think and maybe contact Del to get them sorted.

Really pleased with how it turned out. Even though it was built to a budget I was still suprised at the cost . Think it stands me at around £345 from initial purchase to where it is now. God knows how much some of you guys spend owhen I see these Skyways and Haros running NOS Z-rims or Ukais etc .

Thanks for the nice comments - means alot for the first build. Think I am going to start on my Aero F&F of which I still am not clear what it really is!!

looking far better than it did.i had an 84 ammaco freestyler about 22  years ago.i sold it for a pittance in 1991 :-[at the time when bmx,s were dying out.
