Hi all,

anybody had any sucess repairing worn alloy square taper crank arms i.e. sugino maxy/suntour vx

only slightly out on LH arm but you can feel it notch when riden

probably easier to make some small shims or shim.wouldn't of thought you
could sort the actual arm out.

chop up a bit of coke can or baked bean can and wrap it around the spindle

A peice of tape measure would make a better shim than a coke can .

I had the same problem on a set of maxy cross's

I took it to a company I know who did broaching (cutting square holes) their adivce......................shim it

Becuase of the age of the alloy + its forged alloy + the cost of broaching it would be

You can buy shim steel but to be honest........I had "coke can" shims in em for about 6-8 months and with my 19 stone bouncing on them the were still nice and tight when I sold em

Thanks for everyone else's replys

I was thinking the shim route but didn't know if there were any other ways of doing it
i.e. squaring it up and putting a washer on the front to force it further on the taper $:-\$
