Gearing...
« on: January 26, 2009, 01:34 PM »
After some advice.

Got a 36 / 13 set up at the moment and have to change the sprocket after bending it recently.

Seen one I really like which is half price but it is only available in 37t not 36t (sold out of 36t) - how much difference is this going to make when pedalling? If I get it what will I notice most?

Otherwise - can anyone recommend a strong 36t sprocket?? Mentioned it to Stodgy but he's only got one type available :(

it'll be harder to get going but ultimately faster. but shouldn't affect you in a park too much.

Barnaby are sure if you've bent your sprocket you don't wanna look at getting a rear cassette hub and going 28/10 or 29/9
I'm guessing you bashed your sprocket on some coping hence it's bent?

Whacked it on the coping droping into the bowl at Interact last week.  :'(

Took it all apart and put the sprocket on a flat surface and I've bent it round the centre hole rather than the edge. feels funny when I ride - Only just ot it but must be made of swiss cheese - thinking about putting back on the old steel one.

Tempted with a new back wheel but more than I can afford just now, as first up is a new fork.

Quadrophenia has first dib dobs on my Macneil Bashguard 36t sprocket, but if he doesn't want it, then it's available if you're interested. It's the one off my bike now - maybe you remember it from Interact?  Won't be expensive    :)

Cheers Rob - let me know if its still free - when will you know?

Jedi - I just wanted to check everything was still good, deep down I knew the crank wasn't loose - honest!

I can't defend myself though as I took the whole crank apart when I got home to see what was wrong / bent!!

i thought something was wrong with my back wheel, which would have really f***ed me off being as it's an oddy cassette. the symptoms were that when i push the bike along the cranks turned as i pushed it instead of it just free wheeling.

turned out my cranks were loose. oooops.
