Ok, so whats your take on diffrent handle bar posisions

Bars slightly back from the stem

Bars straight up from the stem,

Bars set forward of the stem


?  I always have my bars staight, or slightly back,   I don't know haw anyone can or could ride bitd with bars set forward,  Man that for me just felt so out of control !

The perfect bar positon below  -  Of course i my opinion only

I have mine very slightly forward.

But i suppose it depends on what bike/stem.

Am i that transparent  LOL !!

See how the bars align to the forks, scientifically it provides the greatest tork and response due to power to weight distribution - if you run the follwing calculation you will see what i mean

bike weight + body weight  % centred mass distribution x power output (multiply by corner angle)  = best riding position

Than again the butterfly is also good !


No seriouly though every time I have ridden a bike with the bars forward - it has felt very out of control

Same as orb my friend, slightly forward, always ridden this set up,
feels like i would go over bars otherwise.

Same as Jon, I ride with my bars straight or slightly back.

I always remember the local lads to me bitd, always had their bars really forward, I always figured they would just go straight over the top if they put too much weight on them.

I guess you position the bars whatever way you feel comfortable riding? I personally always have mine a little forwards on a bmx but when i raced moto-x,I lined them up as Jono has pictured on that spanking Jmc!

i think it depends on your head angle and top tube length, as my oldskool bikes have varying degrees of forward, my nu skool bike is in line with the forks

i bet if you hanged a piece of rope from the bars they would both be close to the wheel nut!

On old school , upright (not forward !)

On new school , same angle approx as forks

i like to have mine in the stem .
on my mrd with the long esp stem bars slightly back
with shorter stem slightly forwards
on my azusa with pro stem slightly back.

I have my old skool handle bars straight.

The longer the top tube the further back they come so using that as a theory why have long top tube bikes to give you more leg room stick to the OS short top tube and save weight (and the shorter the top tube the thiner it can be for the same relative strength of bike)

OS bikes make sense, unlike me

its all about the stem now they are longer so the same angle as the forks is just right .But back in the 70-80's the stems where shorter so we had them more forward .its a personal thing i supose though.

I like them dead inline with my forks, I can ride with them back a little, but can't gate so well. My bars have slight sweep on them, I guess that makes some difference in the set up.

Never forward on a ns bike. sketchy as jono first said.

I agree whatever feels comfortable. I like mine slightly forward it ables you to get more pull from the bars for power. If they are slightly back it does'nt feel right and my knees hit somtimes

Straight up. If I had a new school bike with a longer top tube I'd probably go for in line with the forks though. But bars slightly back always felt a bit wierd and cramped for me.

Also I had a wierd superstition of having the bars slightly out of line with the front wheel, so that the bars were cocked ever so slightly to the left (right grip slightly forward of left grip. Told you it was wierd.

too far forward the stearing will be too quick and the opposite for too far back but what feels best for you is the right way.

i guess in line with the forks or slightly forward, but whatever feels right for the bike, you know when they feel right !!
