Dagenham BMX track.....
« on: September 14, 2005, 07:14 PM »
I went over there again today with Paul to see how they were getting on and it's really starting to look good. They’ve done a lot of work on the jumps since our visit last week with Uncle Buck who upset the council official a bit by pretty much redesigning the track in it's final stages, to many's a grumble about funding.

Today was a different story, it's step-up heaven with a few easy-ish doubles and a table top for the rest of us. There is one mad set of doubles that i'm never going to be clearing in a million years and the first berm looks a bit sketchy but things are really starting to take shape.

I've not been to MK and i think they are a good bit bigger than bournemouth. I'll walk them for a rough guesstimate next week :)

The run up is excellent!

I wouldn't say that they are bigger than Bournemouth, but probably longer.

Oh - got an e-mail from Uncle Buck we have the choice of 12/02/06 or 12/03/06 for our 1st official regional race!

We will be holding an open day before that though so everyone can have a good ride around.

Ok - here's a few pics I took.

The 1st jump was about 8 or more feet high - with a 35Mtr straight from gate run up! Now a lot better!

The 2nd jump was the longest step up anyone has ever seen - probably 5 bike lenghts long on the flat part! Now shortened:

We then have 1st corner which wasn't up to the job, and also had a near verticle speedjump on exit which would have lost almost all of the speed you have built up. Now looks like this:

Next was a MASSIVE step up jump! The 1st part of the jump in this picture is around 8 feet high - it has now been cut down to help keep speed up - sorry no new picture, but there's how it was:

After the next berm we have the next set of doubles - the middle will be compacted down - they dont look much like doubles at the mo, but will be better once done!

Next we have a really good step up double jump - this looks and I am sure, will be the nuts!

Now this is the one we were talking about - unfortunately I only have a pic before the middle hump was removed, and the space filled in a bit.

We then have a 180 berm followed a lovely run up to a sorta step up to double jump. Lots of options here!
Please note - this jump is ridden from right to left.

Next was the silly HUGE table top that us older riders would have never gotten up at this distance through a race ;) It has been made smaller now, and is much much better.

This is the view from the tabletop into the last berm:

We then have the last set of doubles:

Followed by a 5 pack rhythm section - that is being changed soon we hope as the jumps are way to close together.

Long post - lotsa big pics, but it's good to see what we're all on about!

:D

Bloody hell.  Bob's aged a bit by the time he got round to the last berm.  The track must be tough. ;D

They call the surface "type 1 - to dust" Basically the surace is like Hersden, but with a finer top layer making it much smoother. Should be just about perfect I recon ;)

Nice one guys, glad I was able to shake the council & contractors up over there the other week and that 3 hours in the red hot sun was not a complete waste of time..

Really looking forward to seeing it finished and seeing the club host its first race there..

Keep up the good work Paul , Bob and others..

Also just a note to let you know that the 1st round of the South Region Winter Series is @ Hayes on Sun 9th Oct, all welcome...Also the summer series presentation..

We are also all planning to go see Wayne Llewelyn fight at Hammersmith Palais that night too and have a few lemonades, should be a good OS gathering for that one..

Better book it off with er indoors now, tell her u won't be home early...

They aint doin a full trails area any more - just a "practice area" I think it is made up of just 3 jumps!

This is because the council had to cut down the size of the land we can use for the track to keep the local residents happy, and it only left a small area to use for the trails.

However, no work at all has been done on this area yet...

Could I get some directions there plase as I'm quite close (Isle of Dogs) I'd be willing to lend a hand in the construction of the track and it would also be AWESOME to ride a track again!
