Some really, really old wheels
« on: December 08, 2012, 02:07 PM »
Just built some incredibly old wheels for my next build.

These are Rigida moped rims (dated around 1973), with a 1973 Sturmey Archer front hub and a 1973 Atom rear drum brake hub.  All laced together with 12g heavy duty spokes.

Love the look of these and will be so purty on my next bike.

You are pretty close there to be honest.  Very similar except for the rim sizes, hard to find 20" moped rims Rigida and Araya were the main manufacturers in the late 60's early 70's.

Very nice, do your tyres smell as bad as the same ones i bought? 3 months on and they still smell as bad  ::)

I tidied the lettering up with a tyre pen on mine  ;)
Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

Did your tyres seat ok on the rim? Just had a right struggle getting mine centred on my skyway ace rims.
Got there in the end but its almost as if they a little too large?  :-\

No they fitted really well, but my rims have chunky sidewalls as they are moped rims.
