That pic is rad. Geoff is one of my all time fav riders to watch/ride with.

I remember that comp well. It was Bath Mini ramp. Totally relaxed contest and really fun. Geoff used an old frame of mine for a while* while he was getting ready to make his first "Circle G" frame. Geoff did that mad double can off the extention. He also did a big whip air and a 540 off it. Most of the comp is on Video on line somewhere.

*Geoff rode that frame at a comp at Slades farm and lend the bike to another rider. The other rider Ghost rode the bike at the end of his run, not sure why. There was a photo of it in the magazine about 15ft out of the side of bowl. I wasnt all that happy about that! lol.

I used to want PE hubs so much back in the day. Anyone know of any kicking about somewhere?

Also, Alex do you think the G-Sport gland was influenced by your pie plate spoke protector?

There are a few sets around but not many. Ive got a few pairs. Harris got Geoffs old set. I think Tim Ruck might still have his.

George has said in a few places that he invented spoke protectors, even tho his were out after I used the grifter ones. His comeback was that he was the first person to make "BMX Specific" spoke protectors". Same as his invention of the "First Female axled, wheel bolt hubs (specifically for peg use)", cos Bulleye hubs were for racing only.

Of course my PE front hubs look nothing like G-sport front hubs, and my design of putting the bearing behind the freewheel is nothing like his rear hubs! Lol.

Who cares. We should all just ride more  :daumenhoch:

Wasn't trying to start the beef, it just occurred to me that they were similar. I also thought that about his hubs, but ho hum.

Yeah those badboys (PE hubs) were rare back in the day like, same with SYM hubs, I think that'd be my ideal mid-school set-up, SYM coaster rear and PE up front. Let me know if any pop up looking for a good home.

At about this time, I also designed and made a front hub, it was just for my GCSE final project and wasn't that amazing, but of note it had a 17mm hollow female alloy centre axle and 10mm steel bolts, the bearings were tiny though, so the hub shell was very slim and only one was made and it got lost by the GCSE assessors ...every time I return home, I try and find the CAD program floppy disc to make myself one again. I fear it will have been wrecked living in a loft though.

I rode street in the rain last night with the locals :D

Back on topic though, those are excellent pics and it's great to hear the stories and information behind them.

Hey here Dr Rob. No beef at all. There was always a bit of a PE vs G-sport thing.

Mike From exeter did the Sym Hubs. He is a top man, I used to ride with him quite a bit. He said that he took my PE front hub as a starting point and designed on a freecoaster to it. Me and Mike NEVER had any issues (with PE Vs SYM). We help each other out when ever we could.

Would it surprise you to know that Harris has got some Sym Hubs?

Oh, and I didnt mean anyone specificaly should ride more. Just that BMX is about riding, not who was the first to use a plastic disc on their wheels. G-sport ones and grifter ones look just as horrid as each other anyway! lol

Cool, cool, I'm just interested in the history and development of it all as I wasn't living in the UK at this time and only got the odd UK magazine here and there.

Cool to hear about the link between SYM and PE, maybe my ideal wheel set isn't as mad as I thought.

It would not surprise me that Harris has some if not all of the SYM hubs after seeing his garage posted the other day. ;D I might ask him if he has one looking for a new home if I suddenly have a windfall, would have to be after Christmas though, as that's looking v. expensive. Women!

As for those disc guards looking horrid which is the general consensus, I always thought they looked great, they just made me think that person loves a good grind and has thought about protecting their set-up. I'm a function over fashion man myself and like the look.

BTW I didn't take the riding comment personally, I just thought "I went riding in the rain last night so I've got that covered", hahaha.
