do you enjoy racing now as much as the 80s??

i started back racing in 40+ in march this year.although im not half as good as i was in the 80s (used to beat delbert husband at south reginals  ) ive truly been bitten by the bmx bug again.i find it a bit worrying at 41 with a new born daughter,all i can think about is racing,reading bmx mags,looking at various bmx websites,looking forward to gate practice and racing.my wife says mid life crisis,i say its something i did at a young age in the 8os and loved it.im afraid,no mater how old...it never leaves you

Probably more so because you can get home and find pics and vids of your race on the net now!!!

(You can also find pics and vids of yourself racing back in the 80's that you've never seen and thats really cool)

Never raced BITD, Only the last 3 years or so. Really enjoy it, Taken awhile to find my place as such. Started in the 30+ masters, Moved onto Old school, Sketchy and broken bones. Now race 30-39 cruiser and enjoy it. Sometimes wonder when it's cold, damp and crappy what I'm doing outside when I could be in a skatepark.

Love it - more than ever.

I was only 11 or 12 when I stopped so now I have a much different mindset.

I'll try and try till I get something right now - I get much more out of it.

I aint up to much but I'm a better rider now than I was then.  Better even than when I did DH MTB over 10 years ago.

one more week of sunshine then it back to the rain oh and a knee operation!

but i prefer it now as im more competitive than i was in the 80s and it dont bother me what weather we race in.... love a bit o' mud pluggin'

I enjoy racing now as much, if not more than I did BITD. Great bikes, great tracks, goodbuzz, physical hard, (and you need your skills), & great friends. Nothings changed really, just appreciate it more now I guess. Best type of bike racing available to man, you cannot beat 8 on the gate feeling. Cant wait for the couple of Winter Regionals im going to do, and then next summer season.

I'm probably no more competitive now than I was when I was a kid (always been too laid back and into things for fun rather than the comp).

The main difference these days from being a kid is that crashes hurt more and getting injured has bigger consequences, so it's the fear that holds me back.

However, I probably love racing as much as ever, and normally cross the line with a smile on my face whether it's a first (very rarely) or last place, just because BMX is a blast and means a lot to me.  All my tattoos are BMX related (a Haro number plate, Elina lightning bolts and Comp 3 treads) so you could say BMX is in my blood!  Tuff Wheel Troy Lee helmet tats are next on my list!

 do you enjoy racing now as much as the 80s?? More so now for shore. son races ,i race sort of, the trophies are bigger now than back then too. the climate is getting warmer here , iv achieved more now than i ever did back then. Happy days

Now that's a tough 1. Simply cannot forget getting on the train from East London with bike & a sports bag, filled with a two bob tent & other jiggery pokery, heading for Buckmore Park it the teaming rain. Sooo excited about just being there with all those other racers the rain (& even the thick sticky mud) just added to the fun. Nearly every meet was as big as the brits & it was a total buzz, every time. The sport has progressed & changed & sadly isn't as popular as "way back when" but for me it's just as exciting. After my 1st race back, in july 09, i honestly had trouble sleeping from just thinking about how great it was to be back on a bike & just wishing time would pass so i could ride again. The people i've not seen for 23 years & now meet again to talk about GOD (good old days) & those that i've never met til now is just as big a buzz. Infact it happened again today, someone who i'd never met that introduced themself, that is just great. Enjoying & appreciating the racing more now too but for me GOD pips it

I enjoy it just as much as I did first time, the only difference this time round is I dont have to hitch a lift to races, so perhaps this time round I enjoy it more.
Well maybe, BMX was my life in 1981, this time round I have 5.5 sproggs to help take up my time

Just as much now, although I liked the vibe more at the 80s races because there were so many people there (stuff like Pontins especially).

Then again nostalgia can be a bad thing. In my mind I look back at 80s races thinking I was a cool kid on a gleaming race bike but then see old pics of me back then looking like a goofy tw4t with a basin haircut and tracky bottoms that made me look like I'd pooed myself.
