Quick question about coaster brakes
« on: September 01, 2009, 10:25 AM »
Simple question re: a coaster "un-brake" mod:

Does it allow the cranks to pedal backwards (like a freewheel / freecoaster), or does it lock up the cranks as if you have back-pedalled to brake, except it just doesn't "brake"?

Hope that makes sense...

I think it will just be a freecoaster!!

Pedal forward!!

Pedal backward or roll backward and the pedals will stay where they are!!

All your doing is removing the brake.   The brake wont be able to engage, thats about it!!

Pedal backwards all ya like, it shouldn't do nowt!!

Or you could use an ACS Freecoaster which only works on Alloy hubbed tuffs!!

And then you can do both.   Freecoaster or twiddle with 2 dials and then have ya coaster brake back working again.   The ACS freecoster is heavy though!!

I'm gonna use the ACS Freecoaster route as it gives me both options!!  :daumenhoch:
