can any fixie riders answer me this: why?

I'm getting a single speed, an SE, but not a ripper, lol, just a road bike, no gears but a free wheel.

what's the advantages of a fixie over a freewheel?

Joe, it's so you can look all manly with bleeding legs after you slip the pedals and they carry on round to take chunks out of your legs  :daumenhoch:

can't see the point myself and think that ripper one looks like a clowns bike  :crazy2:

i ride a fixed as it keeps me fitter because you have to keep pedaling all the time, none of that coasting lark,my legs love it going down hills :(

I guess bike companies need to make money wherever/however they can in these hard times.

They could have at least given it a different name.

What's next, the Quad fixie?

hopefully I'll be taking delivery of one of these today:

Cov is quite flat, sits in a dip so some uphill/downhill stuff, hoping a single speed with free wheel will be okay.

I think that's my problem. I don't give a damn what they build, but why give it this name?

I did used to ride a fixed wheel road bike about 15 years ago. I was told they are great for improving your pedaling technique, a circular motion as opposed to 'up & down.' The 'old-timers' I rode with told me they were very popular in the 1950's. And yeah, using the PK Ripper name just doesn't sit right with me either.

i had a fixie for a while, scared the shite out of me... also they try to break your ankles every time you try to stop the bloody thing.  and thats with brakes as well...  as for the ones without brakes thats just madness...
But if its your thing then each to their own...  Stodgy will be getting in a couple of the rippers, ask him about the subrosa as well as they are bloody lush....
