Ok I need some ideas from you guys, for a project I'm doing I need to know what a bike would look like in say 20 years, a bmx of the future, what do you think would improve a bike, what could be done to make a bmx better??? Are there any different more efficient ways of peddeling rather than using a crank? suspension? altometer (useful for vert contests)?
That sort of thing.
So far I've got spokeless ring wheels and infrared braking.

Infra-red is line of sight, I wouldn't recommend that. Half-way through a trick and your leg covers the IR receiver and your brakes no longer work?? Ouch.
Air bags would be good though. And a device that slows time or lessens gravity so that you can always fit the trick in.

What about a rim that if you land heavy it goes out of shape and then all of a sudden it springs back to its original shape??? You could do a signature one called "Bike Muff" or something like that. and they could come in different colours and everything.

I was thinking of a wheel that was spokeless, I suppose the main structure could be made from the same stuff they make memoflex glasses out of. At least that way it would retain it's shape. As for braking, I was thinking of the technology used for car alarms, the microwave bubble. If the signal is contained within close proximity of the bike then it should work.
Maybe even built in mp3 player on the handlebars for long cruises.

no more roller bearings - all low fiction coatings
frames made from resin and paper with built-in sound sytems
cabless brakes - tubeless tyres -

materials will improve so weight will lessen
plastic frames ?
micro technologies and improved production techniques will ensure more complicated components in the sane space , so piston/high pressure brakes will be a a possibility
magnetic bearings will mean frictionless rolling , nice
but then to be fair they have not changed much in 20 years as far as technology is concerned , so maybe a change of colour only lol

everything will be made from the molecule up by nanobots, all parts will be carbon based and 100% recycleable.
everything will be free - and we will all have long tassles hanging from our bar ends
