« on: October 15, 2008, 06:38 PM »
Alright, im getting into my rideable bikes and want to know what differences are there between Standard 125 & 250.
I guess from around mid to late 90s. Are they street/dirt/park or what??

School me fellas  :buck2:

if you have a problem, if  no one else can help, and if you can find him, you can always hire

the P-Team.

Philbert there's a non S&M thread here that needs your attention.

the 125 was a race frame and the 250 was for harder riding dirt street ramps
the 125 is a very nice machine and also a good play thing.

the 125 was meant to be a trails bike that you could also race,

robbo morales rode it before standard built him a stronger /heavier frame that was called the trailboss , which in turn was re-named the trails (trls) 250,

great frames, some of the best ever built, :smitten:

theyre amongst the most natural feeling frames ever built, the geometry is soooo dialled in ;)

the 125 evolved into the 125r, shedding a little weight by using first using true-temper ox-gold then ox-platinum air hardened cromo,

heres a 125r i did awhile back,

and my favourite build ever, 125bicyclemotocross :smitten:

Wow, thats great. I have been educated here. After the first 3 or so frames, I never really kept up with what standard were doing, and its always confusing when the frames are all just called numbers (or is that just me  :crazy2:)

Nice one Joe  :daumenhoch:

The first one I saw was Dave Bishops in Hastings. He had one of the first ones, but he bent the forks. The bad thing was there were NO other 1-1/8 BMX forks around so he fixed up his set. He welded internal plates on the bends of the forks (like SST seat posts) so he could still ride.

got to this fooker a bit late in the day didn't i?!

what can i add to keep myself up there. hmmm! more in depth history of said model!

its pretty much all been said about the motocross so i'll concentrate on the other frame.

originally called the 'trail boss' after robbis morales, it was basically his idea, and with rick came up with and STA front end with a motocross backend but with thicker dropouts, was tailored more for trails but i used one for srteet, park, dirt. best all round frame ever imo. was renamed the trls250 i think in 98. the word on the street was they were taken to court by another bike company concerning naming rights, apparently another company were already using it. the add to that rumour was that the 'other' company was raleigh! which they did have a bike of that name in and around that time. robbo left standard and produced a revised version of the trailboss with the name 'progression' under the T1 brand. then robbo set up fit bikes and the first production frames were revised versions of that so there's still some trail boss dna in there somewhere.
as for standard they went on to produce the 250s which was a burlied up street version and then sometime later the 250l which is nice and light and carved the way for all the modern day lightweight frames.
these are still the current models in the 250 range

welcome to the army!

Still think you guys should do the complete Standard history, that would be a great read :daumenhoch:

been working on it for a while now! not ready yet,

chris if you want to pass on any of the early stuff that'd be great. i've got the basics but underground stuff from the early days would be much better!
