Profile crank removal
« on: October 13, 2008, 01:20 PM »
Can anyone give me some advice on removing some Gen 2 cranks?

I bought and crank tool at the weekend but the threads don't fit the profiles.

Is there any other way of removing the arms without twatting it with a big hammer!

Easy bud. Just remove a spindle bolt and knock the spindle through. Use a hammer and a piece of rod/drift. :daumenhoch:

No!!  :(

The proper Profile tool is used for installing!!

For removing, the Profile tool is from the stone age.

Screw it in and use all that pent up anger and unleash the fury within!!

So whether you have the correct tool or not, its still hammer time!!  :(

I had a pair from the US (unmounted but screwed up) that no amount of hammer action would loosen.

I ended up using a vice at work to squeeze the profile tool and using the bb cup (which was installed) to brace it (with some aluminium sheet to protect the cup)!!

It worked but the handle on the vice is bent to fook!!

And there was no damage to crank set!!

Get the biggest heaviest hammer you can find!!!

Good luck!!  :daumenhoch:

:) About time Profile used metric threads and also put a thread around the inside of the spindle boss on the crank arm.At least then you could use a Park crank tool...

Dont use anything sharp!!

Use an extension off a socket set or something similar!!

Then give it some grief!!  :knuppel2:
