Mid ish school Dirtbike.

Picked up an S&M dirtbike recently, not exactly sure of the year, i'm thinking around 2000.



Its well used, and has the classic five coats of spray can paint job, all different colours.


There is a nod to the old school with a weinmann/suntour front wheel combination.






Having recently wrecked my knee and unable to ride, i thought i'd tidy it up a bit, so its been stripped.

If thats a dirtbike, then its the "Dirtbike Classic". A facelift they did of the dirtbike with a 'standard' style front gussett and seat stay brakemounts. Kinda like a not so heavy Next Gen dirtbike.

Id say it was round 2000, not that sure tho.

Yeah, i've not been able to find anything that similar on the net, there are a couple on bmxmuseum.

Serial no. starts DBJNxxxx,
top tube measures up at about 20.25 inches, which is about right for me.

S&M have done a couple of smaller frames. I think they did a small dirtbike, and maybe a small PBR too. You might well have a Junior frame there but hard to be sure without sizes of the non jr one. That top tube maybe sounds a tiny bit short for a dirtbike, I wonder if the wheelsbase is shorter too?

The paint was rough to say the least, so i decided to strip it.

All those coats of paint have done a really good job at protecting the frame.


I think it looks real nice raw, specially around the welds.

Just had a little measure, and the wheel base is 37 inches to the middle of the rear dropouts.

And the top tube is 20.25 inches.

It was going to be painted, but not now

I got busy cleaning and paint stripping and sorting all the other tired and abused looking
parts then reassembled it.




The profile bb cups were battered and worn, so i put them in a lathe and turned some off.




The only item i have replaced is the seatpost.






Quite pleased with the end result really, need to do some more work to the back wheel,
the chrome is flaking quite badly on the rim.
The seat is knackered, but quite comfy, so its going to stay on for now.

I dont get it Laz? I was just saying that S&M tried to make their dirtbike better so they used standards style of front gusset. Thats a good thing for a standard fan to hear aint it?

i had to post the picks as the raw finish surprised me how nice it was.


I'm not sure who DSD is, sorry, point me in the right direction 


oh and yeah, some profile bolts are next on the list, although i wear hi-tops.
