Plastic Chain Ring? what's that all about?

I have aquired a plastic chain ring.

I saw it and had to have it as I thought it was pretty unusual.

is it an actual bike component?

or is it a sample or template or just a gimmic?

Trev say he has a 45t one, this is a 44.

Anyone know anyhting about them?

Yep, lots of those around BITD - Addicks I believe.

Very early - I think they are nylon, but I remember them with more holes.

Stu Thompson used to use them.

I have a OS Sugino Carbon 44t!!!

It feels very plasticky to me!!!

Yep , as Dave says Addicks . Around from early on , here's an ad from around 1978/79 with Stu Thomsen in it .


There was also an ad with Kevin McNeal in it promoting their graphite chainrings .

mine does say on it, in very very tiny letter "ADDICKS" you can just se in on the photo in an oval ring.

well I'll file it away in case i ever do a race build. might be a nice touch.

I used to run a carbon chainring, worked a treat

i had one of them, it came on me peformer i bought last year ,it was a yellow 1, did nt know it was plastic till i got it here, took it off and launched it in the bin ,wish i hadn't of now

i remember them wearing out very quickly, then the chain slipping off... ouch!
