i had a bike nicked once.  i saw it outside tesco about a year later with a hugh chain wrapping it to a rack but no actual lock.  nicked it back there and then.

As others have said, in many places this would have gone ages ago.

 it was in silicon valley in North california not the UK. .. not too much bike crime around here I guess.
which is just as well. ive left my new school bike and laptop in the car loads of times unlocked and no-one bats an eyelid.
 
still i'm suprised it sat there for over a month and no-one nicked it. ..............until a scottish bloke came along  hee hee
