Ok I tried it....

I am a Bmx race track virgin 

Got up this morning and loaded the Haro group one into the car...Drove to Royston rockets BMX track...Gate locked and no-one home.  Went through side gate...ah no-one there except dog owners with shitting dogs.  Get on bike and ride round track, er no I aint leaving the ground and those bumps look painful if you come off...get round track puffing and panting.  Getting odd looks from dogwalkers as if its strange for someone to be on a bmx at a bmx track.
Go round a few more times and then home for lunch...

Olympic champion to be I aint, and I think you're all bonkers doing it...but I reckon I'll do it again, but if I do race then I wll be last, last and last again...but first to the beer.

Things I wouldnt have worried about as a child, like the bumps are annoying worrisome as an adult...but you do get better at it, dont you?

Actually I'm not worried about being last...I'd be far more worried about flying off the first bump and crashing head first into the second one.
It is fun,  its just I am very out of riding condition and theres no-one to have a beer with after.  Its a lovely day and I can think of nothing better than a bit of BMX with friends followed by lunch and beer at a riverside pub...

I hope to get to MK08.

Ray, well done mate, first time out is always difficult. I still struggle now but its about the fun. Get yourself to Dagenham or Hersden you will love the atmosphere and the racing.

Dagenham I can do evenings during the week if there's anything on as I live in Harold Hill...weekends I'm in Sawston cambridgeshire...which is the only reason I was at Royston.  Much as I'd like to go to some of the other tracks, the cost in petrol currently is horrendous and I'm saving up for my holiday in august.

No pics I'm afraid as it was only me there and no camera.

I went round the track for the first time at last years MK meet.

Was ok the first few goes but then thought i would try a bit harder, somehow i came a cropper on the first jump ... cut hand damaged grips .. bruised ego

Then i put on the gloves and helmet and had a few more goes

Its hard work but great fun

I fancy having a go for a laugh, went to Tredegar last week for a go on the track, but there was a race meet there.


Met some really nice folk, & watched some great action on the track.


Remined me of the old days, still a great sport with some real nice people....going back this week sometime to get on the track
