Bear with this please - its not the usual what bike for £XXX.

I'm new to BMXing and looking at getting a bike rather than inconveniencing friends or hiring scaffolding poles on wheels. I've got a few bikes on the MTB side of things which weren't cheap so I understand value for money, good components, pay for what you get etc.

So my question is if you were a newbie and you didn't want to spend the earth but wanted to get something that would see you right what budget would you set yourself and why?

Personally I've set myself a budget already but was wondering what you "pro's" would see as a reasonable budget looking back now.

Lets say the type of riding is Park and Dirt with a bit of Street thrown in. Generally just rolling around attempting things

i'd probably go looking around the £350 mark myself!

seems to be a stepping stone in the market from an o.k bike to something with an actual purpose.

£300 will get you a fairly decent package, tri-moly or chromoly frame, o.k ish componentry, but for and extra £50 will get you into full chromoly frame fork bars, sealed 3pc cranks, sealed cassette wheels, decent geometry, and 'named brand' componentry. an all round package that'll 'last the distance'. if you look at history, to get a bike of this kind of spec in 1995 would cost around £900

Philbert - Just the sort of answer I was after.

In terms of what I'm used to (MTB) there are similar price points and its good to know that the budget I am looking at (£350) hits one of these and in fact the bike you suggest is the one I am looking at buying (have you been reading my other posts?)

new stuff drops rapidly when its been scratched a few times, like it inevitably will be.

nope! just come back from a little expedition in wales and read this, my mates got one in his shop and i was admiring it the other week! stuning bike for the price
