Training for racing...

What sort of training for racing do you guys do? I hear a lot about sprints etc but what works.

I'm feeling more confident over the jumps after starting back but need to know what sort of thing to do for fitness and endurance...I'm fooked after half the track currently! I originally came from road riding and carried on with that but dont have that available to me now...and I havnt rode for years anyway :D

I used to alternate distance rides with sprints on every other day (long steep incline hill sprints from standing start.

Gym 3 nights a week, low weight high reps, followed by a heavier set of more explosive lifts.

Track time as much as poss on your bike.

blimey queen , thats the propper way

im going to give it a go but itl be hard giving up the cake and fags  ;D

time on the bike is the bestest , next is just being physically fit in general , shave a few grams off the mid section , eat correctly . stretching the muscles is a big must as we get older

have fun !

as you have the road knowledge go with what made you fit for that , as you get more knowledgeable you can train muscles and cardio work to suit the short track not the long road  :)

I find that going out and drinking six or seven pints and a few shots the night before a race is a real winner :daumenhoch:

OK, chaps.

Another question, if you dont mind...Sprints....

What is the deal with them...I've been reading round a bit and I am getting loads of different info..Sprint for 40-50 yd's...sprint for 30 seconds.....They are crap....they are the best thing since sliced bread.

What do you guys reckon to them? If you do them, where do you do them?

Soz for all the q's chaps

train on a split program idea:   legs/chest monday , gates tuesday , shoulders/biceps wednesday, back/triceps thursday, sprints Friday, find a long straight that is quiet were you can sprint long and short distances.

But remember you must have riding skills or you will become full of power and on skills so bike time is very important where you can. :daumenhoch:

I recon the best thing you can do is get as much time on your bike as possible, especially on track!

Squat thrust's and star jumps are good, also crouching down and springing up like a jack in the box.

You look like a right loon doing it but it's very good.

Sprints are useful, but as previous people have said track time is more important. Some one once told me gates, gates, gates and more gates. That someone was Dale Holmes :daumenhoch:

gates and sprints are pretty worthless if you get block passed off the top of the first berm by someone who has checked the track and took a lower line from the back

wow Miley, I have just spent 1/2 an hour looking through that site and some of the exercise demo's - that is well impressive. I'm at the gym tonight and think I may try out a few moves :daumenhoch:
