Suntour Beartraps - Does anyone know?
« on: February 16, 2008, 01:55 PM »
I recently got a pair of Suntour XCII beartraps (mint pedal platforms, worn cages) and have now bought another pair (worn platforms, NOS cages) to swap and do the obvious, BUT, when cages are removed I noticed that 1 pair of the silver platforms resembles a 'X' with cage removed and the worn ones resemble a 'O' with an 'X' wiyhin it, Are these platforms XCI's seeing they came with new NOS cages, I had a original pair back in 84 that had the 'X' pattern and these were shop bought XCII's, any pics of XC1's against XC2's would be appreciated

Cheers

Here you go mate. Everything you need to know.

Cheers Marc  :daumenhoch:

Suntour XC-I Pedals (1982) Japan. First generation Suntour BMX/MTB pedals which had extremely sharp teeth on cage and support plate on chassis, features that were eliminated in the later model.

Suntour XC-II Pedals (1983) Japan. Revised version of the Suntour "beartrap" style pedal prized by BMX riders. Cage teeth dulled due to feedback from rider injury and plate removed from chassis as decided it didn't effect strength and lightened pedal.
