I picked up a pro racer about 6 months ago. I thought about restoring it. With the hutch prices making big bucks i have decided to build it from anything but hutch parts. Anybody else got a hutch with custom parts?
So far I have got redline forks on it, diamond back sugino crank with sealed bb, dk stem, tange headset, tange seatclamp,tange fluted post, kashimax aero, no bars, no wheels, no brakes. no more inspiration.

And for some reason, every bike I pick up at the mo, seems to have tange ARX forks on it. Looks like a tange graveyard here.

nice photo's of hutch's with non hutch parts would be much appr. :santa_afro:

OK since nobody else is going to play

Put my Pro racer together like this last year to see if it was still straight (thought I might have bent it in the 90's but couldn't remember)

JMC forks, Tuff Neck stem, SST seat post, Redline 401's 185mm and shimano DX but the rest is Hutch (bars, hubs, headlock and pads) all from BITD so in well used condition.

When it is finally painted and rebuilt this year the DX are staying (way better than Hutch beartraps), the 401's are staying (guess why!), The SST post is staying as it only needs stickers to look like a Hutch and Finally the Tuff Neck Stem is been replaced with an ESP.

Hope that helps, just build it to ride it museum pieces are boring these things were made to be ridden.

PS Using landing gear not original Hutch forks on final build so I've got some confidence jumping it.

Got two Hutch pro racers - luv 'em

First one

Hutch Pro racer F&F with CW Pro bars, Pro neck stem, GT lay back seat post, Kashimax Aero Seat, Tuff neck power disk, Pro class rims, one pice 175mm crank, 1.75 Comp III at the back and 2.125 Grippa at the front. Mongoose pads and dia compe brakes cobbled together from various pieces. All rust is genuine old skool. Never could afford any good parts BITD and the majority of thye bike was put together by buying parts 2nd hand or trading them. Have raced it 5 times this year but eventually put it back in the shed (awaiting renovation) for this one...............

Second Hutch

Hutch Pro racer F&F with Hutch bars, Tuff neck stem, Oakley F1s, Araya aero rims, Comp III tyres, Sugino 180mm cranks, Shimano DX Pedals, Elina lightening bolt seat, Dia compe MX1000s with Tech 4 levers. All parts 100% old skool apart from rear brake cable ! Raced it for the second half of Hersden summer series but despite the looks and better components I still prefer the old rusty one.

that's what i remember from way back. If your bike was factory and had pads on it, you could get beat up round are way for that. Don't get me wrong, I love the show bikes, but the first thing everybody did was customise and take the pads off. I am gonna restore a couple of my bikes because it's just nice to have them for the have. The rest of em are gonna get ridden. I like putting my own bits on a bike, i have dints in my shins form beartraps and I remember dx's costing a few quid from warland cycles in blackburn when they were the latest thing an don't see em as holy grail parts that are worth stupid money. I got pissed off when my laserlite got dirty from riding it just because i spent so much time polishing the thing so thats a keeper. I have come to the conclusion lately that if I buy anything from now on, i am gonna buy it to use and not look at. Gives me an idea.
