Hi Nick, I think I may have the spec in a BMX Bi Weekly mag, will have a look when I get home 2nite.

Funny you should mention the cali as Rad member CJ Haley was riding one at the recent Creation meet, and then a day or so later I was reading a test ride circa 83/84.

Hi Nick. ok the test I have found is in BMX Bi Weekly Volume 3 Issue 18 but is around Aug/Sep83, possibly for launch in 84?. I don't have a scanner but here's the tech spec if it helps...and a few pics from that issue.

The European manufacture was Motobecane, France:
Spec:
Price: £199
Finish: Chrome Plate (Black, Blue, or Red components)
Weight: 25lbs
Frame: 4130 chrome moly main tubes, hi tensile rear triangle, TIG welds & CO2. Chrome plated
Forks: Mongoose. NOT leading axle. Steel with CO2 welds
Bars: Mongoose Hi Tensile chrome plated. 24" spread, 7and a half" rise
Grips: Mongoose rubber compound
Stem: SR MS-422, Square model, Lower clamp in black
Headset: Mongoose Steel Bearing
Brakes: Pro Class MX900, no semi adjuster or quick release. (Chang Star origin)
Brake Levers: Lee Chi Dia Compe Tech 3, short reach
Rims: Pro class 36 holes
Hubs: Suzue Small flange. Open bearing
Tyres: Cheng Shin Comp III (Front 2.125, Rear 1.75)
Crank: Mongoose 175mm chrome moly Chrome plate
Spyder: Mongoose
F.Sprocket:Alloy 44T
R.Sprocket: Freewheel 16T
Pedals: SR Stud Platform, reflectors built in
Seat Clamp: Dia Compe hinged copy (Taiwan origin)
Seat Pillar: Renthal Superlite
Seat: Kashimax Aero Copy (Possibly from Viscount or similar)
Chain: TYC 96-link
Pads: Mongoose 'Flight' pads.

Tested by Mike Pardon, Nigel Higginson, Malcolm Jarvis and Andy Ruffell.

Nice bike the cali, has a couple of copy parts lookin at the spec but Pro class rims make up for that..yummy :smitten:

The cali CJ Haley was riding was sweet and got a lot of attention at the Creation meet recently, I think he picked it up for about £200. I'm not sure what the going rate is but think he got a bargain.

Love a Cali!! Bought this one (originally built by Radster JEZZA custom spec lovely Red bits..  :smitten: ) http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=51443.0

Paid for it early January from the guy on the Raleigh Burner forum,am yet to recieve though.  :-[

Back on a POSITIVE note may be worth contacting Jimmy P here,i'm sure he has the definative take on specs/reviews etc for a Cali  :daumenhoch:
