Oxalyic Acid??

  Right can anyone give me a dumb ass user guild as to what to ask for when entering B&Q in the UK.

  As all i seem to get is blank vacant you been tango'd looks and frowns.

  What else is it marketed under thats readily on sale in B&Q.

  Pics of the containers would be even better, thank you.

i think its also called wood bleach - but not 100% on that

i had this conversation with munners (the oxalic king) last week.
i can get hold of wood bleach at our local timber yard but i don't think its the
same as oxalic.
the wood bleach comes in a liquid/gel for similar to paint stripper.
oxalic, im led to believe are granules that you dilute in water then leave the frame
to soak.
i believe oxalic is quite specialist and it may be a case of ordering online and
its pricey
im going to to buy a small tin of wood bleach and give it a go.
 only need a small amount to get into the tight areas.
i will let you know how i get on

Quick delivery. Pricey BUT if you get a pasterers bath for £20 and fill it with the acid and water you can keep it for ages if you put a plank of wood over it so that it dosent evaporate.  If you lived local i would have done yours for ya for nothing!

so how much would we need to do a frame?

I always use the whole 5kg.

It doesn't hurt the frame and i always over do things!

This is probably why i have always got good results as i use 5kg.

Once it has been in the oxid for 2 days clean the area with the finest wire wall they do or use a very hard bristled tooth brush.

Get it off, then clean the frame with fairy liquid and hot water. Polish it with autosol and spray the inside of the frame with wd40.

never seen it there. only seen little bottles in timber merchants which are so small that they are pointless!

totally agree with the above - save ya petrol money and get it online. The more you use the better and you get faster results - it wont touch stickers either. Just make sure you only use on steel and not alloy as it ruins it.

And as mentioned above spray plenty of WB40 into the frame after, as the frame will corrode from the inside out.

  Did alot of searching and found this, £15.50 ex. vat. for 5Kg of concentrate crystals, and delivered to your door next working day, total cost with delivery + vat = £24.03p.

  Best of all they are in my home City of Leicester and could have collected and reduced the cost only they had ran out and this is coming from their head office in Preston - along with another Ton of the stuff for themselves!!

  Right here we go, as they say.

  I intend to use and mix the stuff in a plasterer's bath and keep locked away with a sealed lid for future use, what is the ratio to use for basic rust lifting, i.e. 5kg of crystals should be added to what amount of water, i have read before that 10kgs is better but is that if you just want the job doing quicker or will 5kgs do just the same job but take a little longer?

  Also is there any stirring required or do you just leave it in the bath, walk away and return after a couple of days and jobs a good'un??
