Once again the tossclumps in Harrow council want to close the skatpark and build more houses on it.
Theres is a meeting at Harrow leisure centre on tues at 4pm in the Masefield suite to discuss this.
Please bring any newspaper cuttings or old photos to show the council that its worth saving.
Also please write to the Harrow times

http://www.harrowtimes.co.uk/letters/send_letter/

or the Harrow Observer

http://icharrow.icnetwork.co.uk/harrowobserver/observer/

To have your say
Thanks.

George,  I think that somewhere in Local Government guidelines there's a clause regarding this sort of thing. I believe that if they remove a regularly used facilitity, they're kind of duty bound to replace it with something of equal quality.  I know its happened with the likes of tennis courts and playgrounds etc....

You'll need to get hold of the councils Sports officer, the Parks officer and the Youth officer at a minimum. Then get into the local plod. They will discuss the issue of 'containment'  that is to say how happy they are to have lads riding all in one spot as apposed to all over the local streets.

Form a Harrow riders and skaters committee to liase with these council officers (who should all be on your side by the way), and discuss with them why they would consider eliminating a venue like this when most other local authorities are actually building them at the moment.....

All the best

Rob

Hitchcox should do OK.  Send him my regards  (Rob Steele).

It may get thrown out as utter bollox, but I know it was a commonly used thing when people were hassling for tennis courts, bowling greens, cricket pitches, all that crap.

The reason for contacting several different council officers is that;

a)  They each have their own budget to spend
b)  They're not all equally helpful
c)  It shows that you're serious and you know what you're talking about....

You never know, it might lead to better things - there might be a new park in it for 'em   :daumenhoch:

I'd like to see a modern concrete park builder knock up a set of quality newschool moguls. That would be rad   :4_17_5:

they're intent on bulldozing harrow park
please help to stop them here......
Your petition has been approved by the Number 10 web team, and
is now available on the Number 10 website at the following
address:

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/HarrowSkatePark/

Your petition reads:

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Save Harrow
Skate Park

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Save Harrow
Skate Park from demolition. It is under stood that Harrow Skate
Park is to be bull dozed to build houses on but since 1976 this
has been part of the history & heritage of Roller Skating,
Skateboarding and BMX biking not only in Harrow but also
internationally. This is a one of a kind skate park, the likes
that can't be seen anymore, anywhere. It is one of only a hand
full of 1970's Skate Parks left in this country, remaining.
This is part of extreme sports history and should be saved from
being filled in. We would like it refurbished for future
generations to use. This is a genuine one off facility and
fantastic for Harrow council, London and England and that can't
be re-built. It has a great aura and atmosphere that can’t be
made anywhere else. It keeps the young and old off the streets
and is a great recreation space for all, participants and
viewers. Harrow Skate Park is a genuine historical park and
NEEDS to be preserved for the future generation.
SAVE OUR HISTORY, SAVE OUR CHILDHOOD, SAVE HARROW SKATE PARK
!

signed. how can they shut down facilties that are used when they are trying to halt childhood obesitey?

I am fat, I'm hoping my new found interest in bmx will help that, and if only say 1 percent of kids skate or bmx, surely that's better than 0%?

I am a bit drunk, I've bee n the pub to watch Man Ure vs Fulham, so hope I'm not rambling.

Southsea, now Harrow, bloody councils  :(

you guys need some publicity, get the press involved, i'm sure that helped the southsea  campaign, ie make the council look bad, they soon changed their mind to get the public on their side.

all the modern concrete parks i've been too are boring and sterile compared to the old concrete ones, the ones in the UK always seem to be small with one bowl and various ledges - yawn

like rob said, why dont they design some moguls or modern clovers, something flowy to ride - who are the desingers anyway skateboarders?

The council are saying that it will be replaced, they've allocated £300,000.
Hitcher and some of the lads had talked to skatepark builders and said that its nowhere near enough, the park is supposed to be gone by the middle of next year and they haven't even found a site for the new one, despite claiming that it will be built before the old one goes!
The point is though, that we don't want a new one, we have a piece of history there and it is worth saving.
thank you all for what you have done.

could you not organise an OS revival there?  get as many OS riders from BITD or just guys from here??  and get the local press down to do a photo shoot for the local rags?  get lots of old pictures from BITD too and document it's history?

come on folks they only have 309 signatures, just by regular users here we should be able to get that up to 500.
(there are 191 regualr users here right?)

unless you are all anarchists and don;t want to fill in your details on a government website, in which case you are kidding yourself
cause they already know where you live, where you shp and what brand of bog roll you use.  :LolLolLolLol:

I tell you what an os day would be cool great publicity and if their were a charge involved ie 2.50 each etc and the council saw that money can be made if managed properly maybe this might shut them up. Anyway a big os day would be good if we can get enough to commit and actually turn up, magazines etc.
