Frame / Forks Mismatch?
« on: November 10, 2007, 07:53 PM »
Anyone shed any light on this one, I'm attempting my first build (on the cheap:))and haven't owned a bike since I sold my burner in 1988. I have a frame which I'm led to believe is possibly an Ammaco or a Falcon Pro, and have recently bought some MCS forks off Steve on here, and I've bought a DB headset from Halfords. The problem is the forks appear to be too short for the head tube, or am I doing something wrong.

I put it all together , and the forks don't come up high enough to thread the nut on!! See pic:

The head tube is 10cm without headset cups, and the tube at the top of the forks is 11.5cm.

Heres a longer shot of the frame in case anyone can identify it.

Does anyone know of any forks which come up higher?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated....

Cheers

Leon

Well 10cm so it's a regular 4 inch Headtube so there should be no problem.

Like Greg said can you take a picture of the Forks.

Do the forks look like they might have been cut down? (cant think why tho?)

Can you take them to a shop and offer them up againsted some other BMX forks to see if your ones are short?

they arent sat perfect but they are in correct so they are def too short must be cut or for smaller headtube frame .looks like buying some more im afraid check length needed and ask before buying is good advise .

Look a bit skinny, are they mini forks? I think they have a shorter steerer/headtube. Could be talking bollox tho! :)

Cheers amigo, never mind no harm done. Didn't occur to me there'd be different lengths.

Anyone want em? ;)

Putting em in for sale section now...........

Steve did say they were mini's, I didn't realise that would mean shorter, as I did ask if they took 20" wheels, but he can't be held responsible for my total lack of knowledge :-[
