Gearing Question

What size chainring will I need to achive the same gearing as 44/16 on 26" wheels if I am planing on using a 16t free wheel?

I think that a 34 front chainring will have a similar effect.

44/16 on 20" wheels = 55 ratio
34/16 on 26" wheels = 55.2 ratio

Have a look at these 2 websites for information.

If your running a longer top tube than a regular bike would you go down slightly on gearing? I'm thinking there would be more drag having extra length in rear stays and chain. What other factors aren't taken into account in gearing chart, weight of rider, fitness and height?
