What Footwear for BMXing

Hi folks
Since the Epic meet on Sat, I've realised that my Adidas Samba are totally inadequate for protecting my feet. So now I'm going to invest in some decent footwear that will hopefully look after my tootsies.
I'm a corporate whore so have no issues with Vans, DC etc so would any one be able to provide any recommendations.
Many thanks
Paul

2 main categories:
Thin so you can feel the pedals BUT not really any foot protection (e.g. old style vans)
Thick with plenty of upper padding, air bubble in the sole to soften the shock when you jump off and hit the floor feet first, BUT you cant really feel the pedals as much (e.g. most DCs and Osiris)
Most shoe companies make 'fat' and 'thin' shoes

get yourself to soccerWorld dude, they selling off all the converse and converse style shoes from as little as a fiver. i got some baseys from the officers club, once again just like converse and a fraction of the price, 4 years of riding withem and the raggier they get the better they feel. im not one for thick soles personally as i like the confidence of knowing exactly where my feet are on the pedals, so id say baseball boots, cheapo, vans, converse etc, everytime.

Sneaker type Shoes like VANS etc fit snugly onto DX type pedals like a dream. - The hightop variety also have a reinforced heel/ankle part which offers a lot of protection.
Thing is, people are riding a lot of larger pedals now like the PRIMO ones etc.
These sort of pedals feel crap with Vintage trainers as they dont fit roud all the studs on them and its just clumsy feeling.
For newschool larger pedals, all the chunky skate shoes fit really well.
IM personally a sucker for the black suede & gum sole look for modern skate shoes.
If your on a budget, get hold of some MASS produced modern "sell out" AIRWALK from a crap sports shop like "sports world" £12ish
Otherwise TK MAXX is full of loads of awesome rare designer skate shoes, often which you cant even get in a london boutique skate shop. Usually priced at £30 max

Adidas forest hills for me a good compromise between thick and thin sole and a good compromise between looks to - only a small foot here so the skate style DC's etc look like boats on me

Cheers all for the replies, plenty to choose from and some good suggestions
Gonna go with something along the lines of a toe protector/spongy sole however I suppose no shoe can protect your feet fully.

Puma GV... they make oldschool Vans feel like 'Adidas Cambodia', those black plimsoles you has to wear in P.E...
And they've done a ltd run in SE type colours..

Paul can't remember what type they were but i had a pair of vans skate trainers a while back with a solid rubber toe across the front a bit like you would find on a pair of hiking boots, good solid fronts so you could jam them over your front tyre in the forks like you were while trying a bit of trevs flatland school, but really light and comfortable.
