can some one tell me what length spoke i will need for some 36 hole z rims with large flange shimano sealed hubs please and help appreciated . martyn

2/3/4 cross is the number of times the spoke crosses another spoke.  Most wheels are laced 3x have a look at a built wheel and follow the spoke from the hub and count how many other spokes it crosses.

Look at my wheel lacing guide to see a 3x pattern being laced.

so am i correct saying 185mm . got some nice blue ones on vert ego that say spokes to fit high flange hubs .
