How do you mean Alex ?

I can recognise all the areas of Rom that he was riding, and he was probably only 14 at the time too, although the camera angles do make it look higher than it probably was  :daumenhoch:

When you see ramps and airs from the 80s, most of them look do-able and the ramp look nice and small. That never seems to be the case with 80s skatepark pics.

Big floaty carving airs in a bowl I struggle to get out of? ... High flat one handers out of a lipless steap bank?

I just dont get it!

Na, I think its in the one of the deeper clover leaf bowls, near where you go through to get to the mini.

There is some vid on here somewhere of him riding rom and is shows his line in there.

alex,  our trick in those days was a big bunny hop air,  that was the only way to ride

these bowls,  any pic you see of an under vert bowl,  the rider had to pull away as he aired ;)

I just dont think I have put in enough Rom hours to be able to get my head round it. When I do go there Im happy to just roll around, in and out of the bowls, and that feels like a massive trick. I would never be able to go to a mini ramp and be happy with just rolling about all day.

Respect the Power of Rom!

Dan, those pics kick arse! Thanks for posting them.

So I have pads and a helmet on, roll in the performance bowl as fast as I can and just end up carving round below the lip, and still shitting myself. You were doing jaunty tables WAY out the top, in 1983, without a pad it sight!

i've had many a chat with dan about the real old school rom riding. i've also seen the pics.

the thing is when dan, bill stupps and pat first rode rom, there was no guidelines as to what was normal and mental. everything was the same. they didn't know it was harder to air certain parts of the parks than others. they just got on and done it.

i have seen pics of dan ride at rom from the early 80's. there are some really dodgy lines which i have NEVER seen anyone do since.  back then i guess it was just another line for them. i would love to see any of the so called rad rom youngsters try to ride into the snake run the angle dan did.  also i'd love them to try and jump out of the concrete halfpipe the same spot dan and pat used to jump out of. they would get so much more respect from us oldies and their peers if they done those two tricks than pulling tailwhips and to a certain extent even flips.

Trev,  those days are gone Buddy. Everything moves on. Sad but true  ;)

Dan, that last photo with you airing the mellow clover, is that not me leaning against the lamppost?  Loads of hair, black bike, black components and wearing black?   Damn, I was ahead of my time..... ;D ;D ;D

the thing is if dan was still riding, would he still ride those lines now he knows how mental they are? not sure...
i know everyone's older and can't afford to break bones unnecessarily, but some really mental stuff went on back then and even the spectators were unaware of how mental they were.

Campbell was one of the raddest ever.

Does anyone remember when The Daily Star (it was definitely a tabloid, though my memory from 21-odd years ago my be shady) did a whole centre page article about him with pics take at Rom?  How mad is that, a national newspaper with a BMX related article on the centre spread!
