Yamaha 401 bmx
« on: May 01, 2007, 03:27 PM »
I notice that you lot on here have managed to help someone find out about a silverfox bmx . Well can anyone help me . Bitd about 1983/4 ish  i had a yamaha 401 bmx which i think must be rare as no one seems to know what i mean when i talk about it . They came in different models starting with the 201 up to the 501 top spec i think . Mine was white with red brakes three piece crank etc . Ive looked in the musuem and on vintage bmx but with no joy  :'(   Id love another one or even a picture or some info on one if anyone can help .   ;)

I remember that one. Two guys I used to ride with had them. (They were also into motocross, which makes me think that's why they went for the yamaha bmx's).
They'd white frames, with red rims and red alloy cranks if i remember correctly. And were real light too.

sound close?

Bp.

Yeh thats right.  Mine was a very fast bike easy to ride and felt right .Id never seen another one before i got mine or after i got it  come to that . I do remember seeing them in a Bmx mag once.    I got mine by swapping my Basic Raleigh Burner and a wog box , oops am i still allowed to say that .   Anyway i was well chuffed with it untill i rode it to school one day a couple of months later and found out it was stolen from one of the kids in the year above me . The old bill were called i was questioned and the bike returned to the right owner . I was gutted and still am a bit even though it was over 20  years ago .

Hi

There has been a bike on here within the last year, as a guess.

Anyway, a Yamaha 401 test was done in BMX Bi-Weekly  - Volume 3 issue 8 - 1983

Hope this helps.

J.

I did have a BYZ 401 - I bought it as it was the bike that 'inspired' me to have my Halfords Turbo stove enamelled white and add red/white chequered pads.

Unfortunately I sold it a while back, can't remember who to though.

I'll try and dig out the pictures tomorrow :daumenhoch:

I have seen your one mate as ive been scaning Rad all night  :LolLolLolLol:.    Mine had a 3 piece crank cant remember the make and it also had a tuff neck stem , was the sr stem a standard part as on your bike ? .  Memory is a bit faded about the bikes little details as id forgotten all about it up untill recently . I might have brought a 501 tonight just waiting on some postal details .  Moose do you know what the difference is between the 401 and 501 is, would it just be the 501 being chrome :smitten:   umm another Yamaha....
