So I managed to design possibly the ugliest frame in the world.

Ok, so it wasn't supposed to be hideous but I think it's ugly.

I'm thinking of dropping the twin downtube as it makes it look a bit like a girly shopping bike. I might make it a fat downtube that the top tube and head tube run through, I'll try it lunchtime and see what it looks like.

I'm toying with the idea of a front coaster, taking the coaster arm and using it as a lever connected to the brake cable, does anyone know if this has been done?

As the ruler says, yup.

I've got a pic somewhere and I also got a scanner now so when I hook the thing up and work out how to use it I'll post some pics.

unfortunatley the brake arm doesnt work like a handbrake, its purely an anchor, its the pedalling backwards that expands the brake shoes onto the inside of the hub.....

but yes, drum brakes were fitted to push bikes decades ago

Dave

ha ha ha. yeah, and I bet someone will say they have one. That's well cool. Wish i could do that. There's no way i can use CAD software. It took me 3 months just to figure out how to post bleedin' pictures on this site

when we all got bmx's in 83, a mate of mine who lived at a big pub had some hand me down contraption

it was kinda bmx-ish, but had suspension, and drum brakes. i think it was made by yamaha.
anyway he didnt like it (he was 10, the bike weighed a good 60 pounds) so it went to the tip - DOH

then he had some piece of crap thing in metallic red and white, with kuwahara ET stickers on it.
that went to the tip too - double DOH

after that he got  a scorpion brakedancer.  doh again.

anyway the point being was that his springer machine had a front drum brake. it worked well, but the bike was so heavy.

wish i could go back in time and stop him throwing that and the kuwi ET away.

the scorpion brakedancer was a rubbish bike btw. super heavy with crap components.

This photo doesn't really show it, but the Felt cruisers have a front hub brake. Looks quite neat in the flesh..
