Old School BMX Vs New
« on: March 23, 2007, 09:15 PM »
I don't know about the rest of you lot but personally i think that BMX's these days are ugly and although this makes me sound old i think the kids of today don't know what a proper BMX is. I grew up in the 80's when BMX's were all the rage with names like Skyway, Mongoose and Raleigh etc with everyone i knew owning a BMX of some kind. Kids these days don't appreciate old classics and a name like mongoose doesn't mean that much to them, when i was a kid just the name mongoose made me dream about owning one. Old School BMX's are way better than these new chunky things, give me an old sleek, slim frame any day. There needs to be a revolution in BMX's, we need to bring back proper BMX's and educate a new generation of what one is. Lets start making some proper bikes again.

Here we go again  :LolLolLolLol:

Actually I used to think exactly the same way as you, but to be honest kids these days have much more knowledge about bikes than we ever did.  Frames these days are all built to similar dimensions and therefore look the same because they work.  Bikes are fatter because the strength is needed.  Take a look at the tricks that are done these days and then try that on a oldschool Haro or Skyway.

What I used to hate about new school bikes (although it is changing) is the colour schemes, new school bikes are ugly to look at when they are all black and beat up.  But I honestly think us old schoolers helped to change ideas.

Finally new school bikes are not all black and dull, here are my bikes:

My GT Power Series Pro (sold now)

My Parkinson Superstar

The wife's Redline Signature series

My only black and dull bike, my Fetish Sin 24 cruiser.

well, um without being disrespectful to the owners, those ns bikes are ugly, except for the nice GT which has the os look  :daumenhoch:. a bright coloured frame dosn't hide the big ugly tubes, to me the colour exagerates them. when i go to my local park all i see is blacks and greys which may even reflect the attitudes of some of our younger generation nowadays  ::)
i noticed the comment about not being able to do the same tricks on an os without breaking it, perhaps they were thinking of PK rippers, but then BITD we didn't have sissy landing ramps either  :2funny:

All you have to do is build your NS bike with some OS parts, how about some well used Comp II gumwalls on a 2000 frame?
I have more bits added to it since this pic was taken last summer,I just need brakes/seat/grips/chain & she's done. :D
