MYTHICAL BIKES??
« on: March 21, 2007, 12:21 PM »
for a while now ive been niggled with the memory of 2 bikes
i saw way bitd.
now i dont know if these bikes even existed or if after many years
of drink, drugs and general abuse my brain has altered the memory :LolLolLolLol:
the first one was a mini race bike.
it was owned by the son of the guy that ran bessacarr buccaneers bmx club.
what makes it memorable is, it wasn't welded ,it was glued  and back in the
early 80's when we were all on burners this little bike was awesome!!
it was alloy and very, very light. i seem to think it may have been a claud butler but i dont
think they made bmx did they??
the second bike was a pit bike that was owned by a local rider darren bollock.
he always had quality bikes so the pit must have been top end.
all i remember was it was gold and ran tuffs, but the strangest thing was im sure
the seat tube was square  and i think it had holes drilled in the frame?
again i have a very vauge memory that it was a cw??
i know the discriptions are very vauge but it may jog someons memory ;)

the Vitus would be the bonded one, there is a link about these over on the v site.

I have a test of the Aero square tubed one somewhere I can scan if needs be.

The Peugeot Vitus frame was indeed glued (actually it was epoxy bonded), I had one to test for a month for Peugeot bitd, it was a pro model and incredibly light.  I thought that it would flex but it was absolutely solid,  it had a really steep head tube and raked out forks, which I didn't like too much.

I was just going to say about that chainring. They were so the leverage changed from the top to the bottom of the crank stroke, so it was easier to pedal when the cranks were at the "dead spot" at the bottom of the stroke. I think it just made the chain jump about and fall off.

Didnt raleigh do a bonded road bike in the early 90s that looked just like that one? I cant remember the name of it.

I had one of those chainrings on a mountain bike back in about 1990 - I think they called them bio-pace or something?

bio pace is the name

you should have a rear tensioner like a MTB or road bike for it to work properly
cheers Kev

Blimey John, that looks exactly like the one I rode, same colour too.  Really nice to see that again, and those stupidly raked forks.  I remember those chainrings also, I picked some up when we went to Holland to race.  They weren't that good though.

They stopped making those chainrings when the professional tour cyclists found they knacker your knees up, something to do with the loadings on the knee! LOL
