1980 Eddy King Replica featured in BMXA
« Reply #26 on: February 20, 2008, 06:35 PM »

The first member of the Torker team was Eddy King!  When I switched to Torker in 1978 Eddy was getting a lot of coverage and related to him through the magazines.  I studied his style and what he had to say.  I applied and the combination of Torker, Eddy, and my training paid off!

When the April Bicycle Motocross Action issue came out with the Torker colors and Eddy doin' a HUGE roost I couldn't wait to see if he was featured or not?  Yes, he was and Bob Osborn (Oz) captured some more great shots of one of my favorite racers.

My bike at the time was already similar to Eddy's except I had one piece cranks, Ukai/ACS wheels, Oakley grips, and no Comp II yet.

Well 24 years later I thought I should build this bike that moved me so but it took another three of looking until I finally found some Grab on MX-1's in the bag to complete this historic bike.  When visiting with Eddy at the 2007 Legends of BMX gathering I told him about the bike and wish I could have shown it to him.  It was so fun to talk with him after so many years and glad to see he is doin' fine with real estate.

Thanks for personalizing the bike by signing the pad set and one of these days I'll catch up with Eddy to show him the original Bob Haro artwork for the To The Max ad/poster.

Near finished messing with this now - just gotta few more bits and bats -

Built in my Mums spare bedroom as the Mrs does not know anything about this BMX....

Bought off here and then I set about making it mine - thinking back I perhaps should have just bought a F/F and started from stractch  ::)

Anyway it started like this

I have changed the Bars for some sexy BOSS Freestyle bars and changed the Pedal, Breaks, Grips Seat Seat post and clamp axle nuts ect ect ect ect - I am sure you have all been there and done that!!!!

Now I am thinking about changing the tyres.....as I have a hankering for RED... I have a few bits that are Red on this Bike but over all its White with green... its going to be one of my riders  ;)

This is one of 5 or 6 Torkers I have. It's my fave. It's a 1979 L.P. frame all OG with SN on BB shell and early non-drilled forks repowdered/repop stickers. I've actually improved it since these pics were taken. it now has OG, red, 1978, Redline Proline V-bars, 6-bolt MCS Stem and red Oakley II grips. New pics to come, along with some or all of my other Torkers.

Frame: 1979 Torker L.P. (Low Profile), all OG
Fork: Torker undrilled (powder coated by C4 with my SBS stickers)
Headset: Tange MX-5 (NOS)

Bars: Torker alloy
Grips: Oakley 1 (NOS)
Brakes: Shimano Tourney calipers (NOS) with Shimano pre-bent lever with plastic sleeve, Shimano Tourney cable (NOS) and first-gen, Kool Stop Finned pads (NOS)
Seatclamp: Addicks (NOS)
Seatpost: Alloy fluted (NOS)
Saddle: Cycle Pro Shotgun
Cranks: Shimano Dura Ace 175 with 42T Shimano chainring (NOS chainring)
Pedals: Reedy
Chain: Izumi black and gold
Bottom Bracket: Torker sealed
Wheels: Araya 7bs (reanodized), Shimano DX hubs (NOS dated July 1979) with 14T sprocket, gold alloy nipples, SS spokes
Tires: Comp II 20 x 2.125 front, Comp II 20 x 1.75 rear
Other: Torker pads(NOS), Custom-Made Forty Four 16 Number Plate

1984 TorkLite Mini
Frame was originally from a small shop in Tennessee.  I contacted the shop owner from the original bike shop sticker and he told me that the bike won several races -- “It was a BMX trophy winner 20+ times."   Bike had a broken off seat mast and a re-welded downtube.  Chip re-welded the seatmast many times to get it right as the chromoly is as thin as a soda can in this area.  The decals are the rare 1984 style with red stroke.
Thanks to Mick for making me some great temporary ones while I have finally sourced a very good quality set that is on its way to me.

This model “TorkLite" was marketed as a small complement to the Pro-X as a complete or just a frameset in chrome or white.  The only pictures I could find of the bike in action are with Willie Huebner at the helm (see pic).  Torker soon went under after this time period.  I wanted to build this as light as possible—it is a tiny frame with a 16"  twin top tube—not the normal Torker style with braces—this is a different shape and much smaller.

Dripping wet the bike weighs just under 15 pounds.

Parts Breakdown:
Frame:  Feb 1984 Torker Mini s/n TII 0088 N
Fork: 1984 Torker Mini
Stem: Torker 6 bolt
Headset: Stronglight Plastic with needle bearings
Bars: GT 1984 second gen mini (aluminum)
Grips: A’me Mini Dual (team Torker 84 colors)
Lever: Tech III right hand
Cable: Shimano with Terrycable parts
Caliper: Dia-Compe 750 with DC pads
Rims: Araya Sew Up 20"  (really 18" )
Tires: Panaracer Conquer Sew Up
Hubs: GT 1st gen black OG hollow axles
Spokes/Nips:  Stainless double butted 14g, DT nips
Cranks/Spider: Sugino Maxy 152mm/Sugino 110bcd
Chainring: Sugino 40t  110bcd
Chain: D.I.D black/silver
Freewheel: Suntour 16t
Bottom Bracket: Bullseye Roller Bearing Euro with Bullseye square taper spindle and matching old Bullseye hardware.
Pedals: Hutch Mini (still need ti spindles)
Seat/seatpost: Uni mini 9"
Seatpost clamp: Integral with original Tange thru-bolt
Plate: Zeronine Mini Flow
Pad: Original Torker flat frame pad

Torker II 540 Air - Built as I used to have mine
« Reply #43 on: December 13, 2010, 01:51 PM »
Howdy guys

After a year of searching, restoring and building I have finally completed my Torker build.
This is not meant to be a Factory Torker reprodduction but rather the replication of the bike of my youth.

Frame Torker II 540 Air, The frame needed the drop outs repaired after then had been spread apart by some cowboy build in the making, then the frame was blasted and re powered and then pin lined.

A huge thank you to all those on this forum that helped me along the way, you know wwho you are so a massive thanks to each of you for assisting me to get to this point.

o The forks are the correct Tange MX freestyle forks with trick pegs,
o Skyway Spin Master (NOS) gen 1
o Haro Master bars, these had to have the stem clamping area cut out and replaced then they we re powered.
o Allow hubbed Skyways
o Oddy Freestyle 2000 brakes
o Clarke Powerglide brake cables (NOS)
o Kashimax saddle
o Perigrine Tires (NOS)
o Shimano DX pedals  although the pics below do not have thease fitted.
o Tuffneck Pro Model stem

I have not had a lot of time or the correct weather to put together some decent photos sso please see some taster photos below.

More pics to follow

Regards
Simon.
