JUST BEEN GIVE SOME TUFF II what now???
« on: November 18, 2006, 04:48 PM »
how poxy am i? :D
i was just talking to a mate this morning about getting back
into old bmx's and he said he had a pair of old wheels knocking around in his garage!
i talked him into getting them out so i could look at them and they were tuffII in great condition, they just needed a good clean.
are they a matching pair? as the hubs seem to differ
ive stripped the guts  out of them because I'm gunna put them in the dishwasher then fit all new bearings.
I'm not totally sure (its been a long time since ive worked on a bike) but i think they had a coaster break on them  and i want to run free wheel is that going to be a problem?
this is the stage im at now, do i need to remove anything else before i put them in the dishwasher?
also whats the centre bit on the rear wheel? and how do i remove it?
be patient with me this is the first time ive touched a bike in over 20 years

Yes that looks like a coaster rear wheel. DON'T REMOVE IT !

You can either get a coaster kit which turns a coaster into a freewheel or trade it for a Freewheel type.

I have a rear alloy hub black Tuff II which has a freewheel.

PM me if your intersted in a trade, but DON't REMOVE THE HUB  :daumenhoch:

It's hard to tell from the pics but that looks like an early cassette rear hub unless it still has the remainder of an old freewheel on there

The rear hub flanges look alloy . . . if so, it'll be freewheel  :daumenhoch:

Carefully clamp the old freewheel in a vice and unscrew the wheel clockwise  :daumenhoch:

right.
i had it soaked in WD all night and have had it in the vice but it aint shifting, I'm worried if I try anymore I'm gunna damage it.
will it be ok to leave it on? will a new srocket fit straight on to it?
what the best sprocket size to use?  I've seen a suntour 45T will that be ok?

You'll have to remove what's left of the old freewheel to fit a new one. Take the wheel to your local bike shop and see if they can help

just took them out the dishwasher.
they look spanking ;D
will take them tomorrow to our local shop.
but I do still have the old sprocket that come of it. I may have a go at rebuilding it with that. is there any good ''how to'' on building the sprocket and hubs for the tuffs?
