The MK19 NOS Frame - EPISODE 2 : WHAT IS IT ?
« on: June 14, 2020, 05:52 AM »
Been a long time coming this tale - those who already know... already know lol  ;D

I'm gonna drag this out cos it's gonna take me forever to build it with everything else already on the list  :LolLolLolLol:

So.....

EPISODE 1: SEAL THE DEAL

At MK19 there was a NOS mystery frame for sale at the OT cycles stand.

Some were interested.

Some were intrigued.

Some thought nothing of it.

Some threw offers in.

Some knew there was something very cool about it but could'nt quite put their finger on why or what and they let it slip by.

Someone however negotiated with the friendly saleseman and walked away with this NOS piece of BMX history in their hands whilst others debated what it was......

And that person.........

was me  :)

I hooked it on the handlebars of my rider and hit the pedals back to the car, snuggled her in with my other MK bits and she was soon safely back in her new home  :smitten:

Sneeky peek time...........

Coming soon.............  EPISODE 2 : WHAT IS IT ?

 >:D

So after I'd gotten my grubby mittens on the old girl the usual suspects started stroking her and making suggestions and debating her origin.

I can't remember who suggested it at the time (I think it might have been Craig, can't remember) but someone said we should all wander over to Alan Woods and have a chat since there was clear a "Robinson" vibe and Alan obviuosly had that strong Robinson connection back in the day.

Alan took one look at the frame and said "Ahh yeah Trackmaster - they made frames for Robinson back in the day for a while, it's practically the same frame."

A few of the Robbo boys eyes lit up and I could see the "re-decal it as a Robbo" cogs wearing away in them but I was waaaaaay more intrigued that I basically had a NOS identical frame to a Robbo that wasn't EXACTLY a Robbo but made by the company who made Robbo's...........

The serial number is different to a Robbo and there was a comment about the "stitch" style welding around the dropouts being different to Robbo's, but everything else was identical.

So.... what exactly the fook is this Trackmaster I thought.........

I knew the next thing that was required - one of my favourite parts of BMX collecting / restoring / building......... research.

Coming soon.............  EPISODE 3 : THE RESEARCH

A few pics to keep you going  ;D
