Craig Campbell Prolite
« on: January 22, 2018, 12:29 AM »
Hello chaps I thought it was about time I did a proper build thread again
So here is the latest project and a little bit of a back story,
In March 2014 I met up with an old school mate at the newly opened Rush skatepark,we soon got chatting about the old days and old school bmx and he mentioned that he still had his old Craig Campbell from bitd , well obviously I said if he wanted to sell it then I’m his man, he replied that he wasn’t fussed about getting cash for it but was willing to swap for something ie a new school rider ,a bit like the pink We the people bike I was riding that night.
Well the deal was done he tried out the WTP, loved it and I was the proud owner of an apparently rather tatty and yet to be seen CC Prolite ,along with a promise that I would deffo restore it.
When I did get it he wasn’t wrong it was ropey as fook the chrome was shot the dropouts were chewed and it had a few holes and dents to contend with and the added bonus of an alloy renthal seatpost cut off flush and stuck solid in the frame but it was mine and I just had to decide what to do with it.
What I actually did to it was fook all and I went on to do about another 10 builds before coming back to it this time last year.
I had been collecting all the parts to do the traditional chrome and green rider rep that Craig rode but I had also changed my mind in that time and sold all the green stuff so was back to square 1 .
Anyway last January I got my ass into gear and made a start by taking it to a chromers to be stripped and also a quote to repair and re-chrome, when I went back to collect it, it looked proper sorry for itself and with the quote for the re-chrome coming in at 350-400 quid and that was on top of the metalwork repairs that needed doing the chrome idea was soon fooked off 😂 and if you know me well then you’ll know I’m not a fan of chrome bikes anyway and I don’t actually own a chrome bike either .
With the frame back I sent it to a local frame builder called Ted James to get all the metal work repaired , it turned out that Ted was a bit laid back and I didn’t get it back for almost 6 months but he had done a good job I gotta say.
With it finally back I got straight into getting it all rubbed down ready to send to Dan as I’d decided it was gonna be painted.
But yet again a couple more builds came along and it got put on the back burner and didn’t make it to Dan untill December.
Well last week exactly a year after I sent it to be stripped I received it back from Dan with its nice shiny Baby Blue paint job
Sorry for the essay but if you got this far here’s a few pics of how I got it , I will add more tomorrow

It comes out of the ground!

I sold your old one (303) on last year Ed 👎🏼
It turned out that this was the slightly better frame set out of the 2 hence me keeping it 😀👍🏼

The finish is fookin lovely as you would expect from Dan he never disappoints,
This is where it’s up too at the moment , I do have the decals and most if not all the parts to build but I need to decide which way to go with colours of components etc.
When I get chance I’ll get the decals on and the headset and dig through the parts and try a few options out 👍🏼

Got these little beauties to go on ,they need a good clean up and a dose of peroxide and sun so they’ll have to wait till the spring, but they are a cracking set 👍🏼

I picked up a slightly tired Hot seat late last year ,
I’d had my eye out for one for a while but they don’t seem to come up for sale very often
so took a chance on ropey one and sent it off to Mark Ralph for a resto.
I’d heard his work was top notch and I wasn’t disappointed 👍🏼👍🏼

My thoughts exactly! I don’t have the skills or tools to do anything other than chuck old parts on old framesets, so love seeing a proper resto! :daumenhoch:
