Stu's Mod
« on: January 08, 2018, 03:16 PM »
A rather miserable flu filled christmas break was brightened up by a mail from Chubby with news of a rotor find he knew i wouldnt have. Seems he had been thumbing through some old mags and stumbled upon this article

Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

With only the info in the article to go on i set about googling Stuarts name in conjunction with Scotland, Bmx, Aberdeen, etc. All the usual and somewhat generic related keywords in the hope something would pop up.

Amazingly i found an old post of his on bmx talk where he mentioned he was a rider for Vincent and rather unusually had posted his phone number for anothr memeber on ther to contact him.

The thread was 10 years old but with no other leads i drafted a introductory text and pinged it off expecting no reply.

Amazingly he answered  :daumenhoch:
Sadly he told me the only one produced was the one in the add. He had never taken any orders and had long since binned the prototype in the add. He did however say he thought he may have some old pics somewhere in a folder and would have a look over the holidays.

A week went by with no word and just as i was starting to think the worse i got an email with some hi res pics and some helpful recollections as to the rotors construction.

The next step was obvious, a rotor had to be reproduced!!

Stuart indicated that the rotor had ball bearings and using the distinctive scalloped mid section as i guide a search though a few of my regular bearing sites suggested it was probably a lose ball thrust bearing. One was duely ordered and it arrived this morning, thankfully confrming my guesswork  :daumenhoch:

I couldn't find the rotor thread Clint!
Spotted this Columbia freestyle complete on the bay..has an interesting rotor setup. Not really worth buying the bike for the rotor but one to look out for....

I've never ridden anything with a rotor (helicopters aside), but I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out! Great work so far Clint!
