Dia Compe 880
« on: October 23, 2016, 06:20 PM »
This is a newb question but what the hell.
A Dia Compe FS 880 caliper looks very different in construction to most others, why? :chin: Does the FS stand for 'free style'? If it does why?  :chin:
Just looking for a period brake for my GT Pro.
Thank you in advance.
Wanted: Shimano Aero frame
Wanted: Tange Axeblade frame

Good question - I really don't know why.... :-\
Some of the freestyle bods like Brett, Ant and a few others might know the answer...

Yes, the FS stands for freestyle as it was the first caliper which was interchangeable for potts mod ( you can swap the hardware) and also featured a low slung design for downtube clearance. The first ones came out in 84, most people don't tend to use them on race bikes but no reason why you couldn't  :daumenhoch:

Thank you so much. I have been looking for a while for a caliper. I may say 'sod you' FS brake works just the same! It squeezes and you stop, I knew no better back then (there was no freestyle, ramp or race) all was the same. It is within date, looks lush and is way better than repop. Thank you again.
