Hello from newb with a GT project
« on: December 30, 2015, 10:06 AM »
Hi there guys
I was told about this site through bmxmuseum forum by member coffin2death im presuming hes a member here too but dont know. Im in the UK so with that forum being manly people from the US i was really pleased to hear about a UK bmx forum!
So I have been into bmx as long as i can remember more midskool than old but have messed around with a good few oldies back in the 90's in my teens. My first real love was a 94/95 dyno compe with the yellow/black decals which i had stolen just after i had finished it which was heart breaking to say the least! Ever since have wanted another and i did mange to get a 2000 compe a while back for a rider but never really loved it as much but being bigger and heaver i needed somthing a bit stronger which it was! Recently have been looking for a midskool project to keep me occupied and something to chase my little boy around the park on his mongoose balance bike which we got him for crimbo.
So here goes i love GT's and Dyno's and have been wanting a pair of double gusset pacman forks so when i saw this on ebay i grabbed it.
The frames in ok shape with one ding just under the rear brake mount but no cracks or other dings and with it being a rider not too fussed about  the ding plus you cant really see it unless its upside down lol.
The chrome bits have seen much better days and im not really feelin chrome and paint combos so im thinking of getting them blasted and starting fresh with some paint.
Im gonna strip the paint off the frame and re paint that also.
The wheels were awful and after stripping the front down only thing thats any good are the hubs which are in real good shape considering the state of the rest of the wheels.
I dont have a giant budget so am going to do as much work myself as poss including the paint i dont mind putting the elbow grease in.... I have built and painted stuff before but not for a while so any recommendations/suggestions would be much appreciated.
As for colour scheme im gonna go with black and antique white with some gold bling thrown in! So thats enough talk heres some pics for ya to look at.
Look forward to hearing what yall think!

Not had chance to clean much yet but a quick wipe with a rag did wonders lol

Can now mate... nice project.  :daumenhoch:

This'll help with any bits you're keeping chrome.

Oh great must of been editing the post when you looked coz i messed the pics up first time....
Thanks for the link but im pretty sure ive decided against chrome i would like any other bits to be gold instead of chrome or silver. i want to build the wheels up with black rims and spokes with gold nips. then i wanna throw some gold nuts and bolts at the rest of it.

:welcome to  :radbmxsmilie:  :daumenhoch:

Post a thread in the Tech and Resto section. Be good to see a start to finish. As suggested have a look at the restoration of your chrome parts in the link.  :daumenhoch:

Ahh ok yea good point will put a thread on the resto section. Well everybody seems to be suggesting that i dont get the chrome striped off.... I gave it a quick rub to see what its like and ive seen worse come up good but I really dont want chrome on the bike. I have seen that people have painted chrome but i just dont see paint on top of chrome being that duable? Thats primarily why i wanted to strip it off. but ill post a question about that in the resto thread lol!
