Skyway TA restoration
« on: October 13, 2015, 03:46 PM »
Hello all, I am new to RAD.

I have just dusted off my old 1983 white framed Skyway TA which has been languishing in a barn at my parents house for probably 25+ years. I am about to embark on a full restoration, which will require a full frame strip and re spray, white TUF II need a good clean, basically everything, can anyone give me a colour code for the frame that I need to match to please?

I also have Silver Dia Comp MX 1000 brakes on it but am missing one of the plastic adjusters and assembly that is mounted on the calliper, can anyone suggest where I may find one?

Thanks,

James

 :welcome  to the forum James.

I don't think that there is a specific paint code for the white. I would recommend sending it to Superbikedan for a white powder job.

Dan's the man, when it comes to refinishing BMX frames.  :4_17_5: :4_17_5:

Another option is a survivor look, which will work out a lot cheaper.

As Dan said there is no specific colour. My local powder shop uses ral 9003 as their everyday white.
I will caveat this statement with one point: If you're going to get components painted white SEND THEM TO THE SAME PERSON AT THE SAME TIME or else they could all be different shades. And that would never do would it?

Before you go ripping it apart, lets have a look at it, we all love survivors here and theyre starting to get a thin on the ground, most get refinished, but the beauty is in the history of the frame where every chip and scratch is a trick gone wrong back in the day

Welcome to RAD James. Have a look around the forum, especially the tech and restoration and bmx chat sections. In there you can ask any questions regarding your bike and it's restoration. The tech & resto 'sticky' threads contain some really useful info on how to do... (whatever). Post up some photos of the bike in it's current form - would love to have a look  :daumenhoch:

A good service of the bearings and brakes, possibly tyres and ride it. id leave it as is because barn/shed finds are very thin on the ground now
and they are only original once. can we see some pics?

I agree with the others on here, the survivor look is better.  I was going to restore my GT World Tour but after the advice on here I've left it as it is and am glad I did.  Let's see some pics :-)
