Good morning everyone!
« on: September 26, 2015, 08:32 AM »
Hi Everyone.

I'm daz, 39 and from England, was into the bmx scene in the mid 80-90's.
I have had diamond backs, mongoose, skyway, Raleigh burners etc... Recently my dad was clearing his garage last week and he found a bike covered in cobwebs etc.. The usual after 30 odd years.
It's a hutch 1982 pro racer undrilled forks pre-serial number from what i can recall (although not 100%) Even so... I could not believe what I was seeing, blast from the past or what! I remember that i swapped it back in the day for a skyway which was a cracking bike, we only swapped cause the lad wanted a mag wheeled bike, to be fair I wanted a change so happy days.
Still love bmx's and always will.
Question is now! Do I restore this find or find someone who appreciates a fantastic piece of kit?
Decisions decisions......???

Hiya Daz, and welcome to RAD.

I'd say that, if you want to restore the Hutch, then this is the site for you, but if you are going to sell it on and make a few quid on it, then move along as there's nothing to see here -  :feebay: is the place for you my friend.  :daumenhoch:

If you've lived all these years and not needed the money the answer is simple = restore it and ride it.

As Dan said, if you're here to make a quick buck = in the words of a legend, c'ya!

Hi to you both, no it's not the point of making a quick buck ;) all I was saying was now I have a family and not much time these days, it's hard finding a lot of time spare unfortunately.

Pop a pic up, it might just need a cuddle to get it back on the road.
Alternatively do as others, including myself, have done and involve the kids in the restoration.

If you've a genuine love for Old School BMX mate, there's always spare time. I've a 1 year old daughter myself, but I still manage to tinker with the bikes, and get out in the rides with the guys, occasionally.  :daumenhoch:

Yes I think it would be worth restoring it back to its former glory.

Stop right there. That DOES NOT need restoring.

It needs oiling and riding.....AS IS "wantit"

Cheers mate, the tyres and brake pads are shot, few rust spots here and there but it's in pretty good nick for 30 odd years old.

:welcome dude! That bike is awesome ... Original padset too...
Strip it .. Clean it .. Put it back together and come along to one of your local rides.. You won't look back... The lads are brilliant on here! .. Even if I do say it myself! :LolLolLolLol:

If the tyres are shot you can get repop comp 3's from Alan's Bmx ( Wigan ) for beer money ... Seriously !

What that ^ man said. It's so great to still have one of your old bikes from back in the day. New tyres, tubes, brake pads. A new brake cable and chain would be good for safetys sake. If the brake cable outer sleeve is date stamped, don't throw it away. There's always people after date stamped parts for their era correct builds. Welcome to  :radbmxsmilie:. Where in the country are you?
