New GT Vertigo
« on: May 05, 2015, 04:09 PM »
Here is my  new gt vertigo it will be my first build but I'm not looking to win any shows i do want to ride it . I would really appreciate any help you guys can give me on restoring it. I need an original seat and a new gyro for it at the mo but I'm sure i will need more I'm guessing i will put on new tyres, break pads and grips . Really excited about this. i have ordered some citric acid to clean all the chrome up in so i guess i need to start dismantling the bike now  :slayer: pics below of the bike as i got it .http://rs300.pbsrc.com/albums/nn21/danny61379/IMG_1301_zpsjto4mzti.jpg~c100

Great first build. You might want to check out my PFT build thread. It was in similar condition when I got it and cleaned up well with an oxy bath and a bit of elbow grease.

Already looks a very clean example.  :) A strip down and polish should make that ace.  8)

Bearing cases for a one piece crank... ask at your local bike shop (lbs).  :)

Nice resto job you've got on your hands there.   :daumenhoch:

Hey all just a quick update the bike is all stripped down I have some new bits on the way that should be here tomorrow. Del is on the case with the new decals 😃. And I dropped my wheels off today to be re spoked. The citric acid came so the frame, forks, handlebars, seat post and crank are all taking a bath. It's not going to be a show bike it's just going to be s nice tidy rider until I'm too old to ride then it will get the full quality refurb 😄but that's a long way off with a bit of luck.

Just had a call from the guy doing the wheels and my rear hub is knackered so I need a new one with the cost of the spokes and the labour it's coming to well over a hundred quid so I have decided to just get some new rims for now. Only cheaper ones so I can get her running then get some better ones in a few months. Stickers should be here end of the week 😃 have a new seat and bottom bracket here tomorrow courtesy of Mr edbanger, I thank you. Just need to get a new headset anyone know what one I should get or have a link for one that will fit as I have no idea

Over hundred quid to rebuild a set of wheels.   Fook that.  "nono"
Do it yourself... it's not as difficult as you may think.  ???

Use this :

O fellas just a quick update on my progress if your interested  yawn yawn. Today i picked up some cheap wheels that will have to do for now until i can get some better ones, i also got a headset delivered so i put the forks on and the gyro and fitted the brakes. The cable from the top of the gyro seems a lil bit short it works fine but i would rather it was 50mm longer but hey ho don't think there is much i can do about it. The frame cleaned up fairly well they is some marks on it from the rust but I'm not getting it re chromed to drop it over the skatepark and ruin it so it will stay as is for now. Del has posted my decals today so i should have them tomorrow  :slayer: :slayer:.
Also tomorrow i will have my bottom bracket here and the correct gt seat (cheers edbanger) below are links to the pics of how it is at the moment (sorry its this links but i cannot for the life of me get the damn pics to show).

Cheers for looking guys and for ya help....Looking forward to riding it now  :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :slayer: :slayer: :slayer:

Hi guys bb and stickers came today so they are now on the bike ( thanks del ) the tyres and tubes should be here later 😄 when I get them on I will post a few more pics and see what u all think. As before it's not fully original spec and not mint condition as chrome has some problems but it is bringing back so many memories for me and I can't wait to get out on it this weekend  :slayer: :slayer:
