1977 DG Racer. Close to being finished..
« on: May 14, 2014, 05:54 PM »
Seeing as the sun was out today I though pt I'd take a couple of photos of the almost finished DG. I was contemplating selling the frame set before fully building it but seeing it today I have a feeling it'll be put back in the Funky vault  :)

Close to being complete as I just need an original head tube decal which I'm hunting for.

So for now enjoy this NON SE chromie   ;D

Thanks all  :daumenhoch:  I really like it but I'm contemplating switching the crank for a chrome / blue Ashtabula/ Addis.

As for the stand seeing great bikes on crap stands is s pet hate so I've always painted mine.

The only things i'd change Ash is the lever for a 45 degree or straight one,the chain ring for a blue one & the blk chain for a chrome one.
One of my pet hates is seeing double bends mounted near or up against the grips  or tech 2's on or over the bar bends.  :tickedoff:
As it reminds me of badly built superstore completes & always looks rushed & thrown together to me.

Apart from that a box of Kleenex mansize as no need for your wank sock!  :LolLolLolLol:

Totally agree with the lever Mike, these just don't look right where I have it and it doesn't work further down the bar, I'm sure I have a red dot somewhere but finding it could be a ball ache. The DID chain is the only spare 70s one I have for now and can't afford another blingy chrome jobbie  ;D

Depends on who's selling it, someone was asking £100 plus U.S shipping for one the other week so I passed on that.

As far as I remember nothing with D.I.D other than they came in chrome plate, black and I think copper too ? Although don't quote me on that as that coule be the Campy ones I'm confusing it with.

MMMM just as i thought,  :chin:

I remember the black, nickle & chrome ones.Don't remember seeing copper ones. They made gold & black ones too.The two top most sought after & reliable chains i remember from back then were D.I.D. & HKK Smokers which came out a year later in 78'.D.I.D's were the 1st chains built strong enough for bmx & tough as hell so these were never an entry level chain Ash.In fact the best chain you could get in 77' & was still one of the toughest most reliable chains throughout the 80's too.You had to order these from the bike shop back when they first came out through Laguna until the bike shops caught on & started stocking them. They came stock on Redline Pro-lines in 78' so hardly cheap entry level chains like KHC made in Taiwan shite.
